Nobody has mentioned, that FreshRSS [0] has built-in web scraper too. It is also easier to use (little bit, imho), than changedetection.io. Works like a charm for me - mostly window shoping thrift shops.

Everybody seems to do stuff like this nowadays. Myslef included. I did have old K4NT lying around and started playing with it. With a little bit of help of AI (not for jailbreaking though! - lots of nonsense) I was able to put up little server, which now serves family calnedar agenda, but it is designed to be modular and I will put more stuff to it later. I've even designed and 3D printed insert into Ikea 12x18 frame and put a small "blade" powerbank with MagSafe to the back, so now I need to push powerbank button every 5 days. Internal battery is in a bad shape now, but I saw I can still buy an replacement. Wired version was not an option in my case.

If you like the product, but are not interested in paying for sync or publish, consider buying the one-time $25 "Catalyst" license just to support development.

You are good salesman, you've made them at least $50 now. Definitely money well spent.

It's a fastener used mostly in the military, developed by Phillips purely to get the military using its proprietary/patented design to extract as much tax dollars as possible. It is widely reviled by aviation mechanics because it strips at the drop of a hat and is difficult to torque.

It is only in use because "it's what we have billions of dollars sunk into existing tools and fastener stock" despite it being wildly inferior to torx, as demonstrated by the fact that NASA needed to make a gigantic fucking C-clamp to keep it from camming out.

Consider that the entire point of the Phillips head (which the torq-set is just a different pattern of) is purposefully designed to cam out to limit torque so that someone can't guerilla it so tight the head snaps off. Which is not an issue in aerospace where everything is assembled with calibrated, precision drivers.

Using it on a "we critically need to be able to get this apart later" part is beyond asinine on NASA's part.

NASA are a bunch of dinosaurs incapable of change. It's really cringe seeing them toot their horns so much about solving a problem that never would have occurred if they weren't using a fastener that even a fresh-out-of-school aircraft mechanic could have told them wasn't appropriate for this application.

NASA got what they deserve. The could just ask every single aircraft mechanic about this one. Especially bloody torq-set. With budget they had. They could machine any head the wanted, and yet they've chosen stupidest one out there.

Nice app but I miss realtime rain info. I prefer Yandex Weather: https://yandex.com/weather/maps/nowcast

It has a layer selector with temperature, wind, pressure and precipitation.

pilina · 3 years ago
Well, it has Radar (for Europe, US and some parts of the rest) & Satellite layer (whole world), which shows you current conditions. It can also show meteo-stations with current values of temperature, pressure and so on.

I didn't know that! Windys color scheme is a lot clearer (and I like you see hiking trail numbers on it) but OSM shows hiking refuges when more zoomed out.

EDIT: https://i.imgur.com/WBiptdo.png for example on OSM, vs https://i.imgur.com/EsZCsA8.png on Windy

It is based on mapy.cz [1] - Outdoor layer. It is mostly OSM based (plus lot of their own data for Czechia and Slovakia). Mapy.cz belongs to same guy, who runs Windy (Ivo Lukačovič [2]). IMHO it is best readable map on the internet and when I am used to it, I cant find anything on Google Maps.

One thing that's really missing for me from Obsidian is a view similar to that of Google Keep. Like sometimes I want to drop a small note "my stuff is in locker 2130" or "Look into Open Library <> WikiData linking percentage" and then easily be able to see it again in a few of all notes most recent.

A thread on Reddit give me a small hope this update may do that but I don't think so.

PS: I'm aware of the daily notes viewer, and that's what I currently use for most of these situations. But it doesn't help with having a simple way to see contents of all recently created notes.

Edit: this is something I mostly want for mobile

pilina · 3 years ago
I use Nextcloud Notes for that. It has decent mobile app and works great with few notes (Nextcloud Notes doesn't work as second brain very much).

I have two notes in there - Buffer and Shopping list. Buffer is one note for all the small stuff you mentioned. I also have widget on phone homescreen for that note so I can access it pretty seamlessly. Of course, it also means, you need to access some Nextcloud instance (I run my own).

Edit: I use Obsidian synced with Nextcloud for all the "second brain" things.

I am just getting more and more convinced that any personal todo list is useless.

Most useless part is priorities on personal list. If something like utility invoice is to be paid - just do it.

If it is something like "read Anna Karenina" it is not getting any priority ever it is just something I would like to do in my life.

So stuff that really needs to be done I will deal with without any todo list I will just remember it or deal with it right away.

Stuff that does not need to be done will not get done - and that is perfectly fine.

Different thing is if it is company "todo" list and I need to keep customer requests, well JIRA does the job.

In the end don't listen to me because there are many much more successful people than me, I am simply happy with what I achieved so far, maybe I would achieve more with todo lists but somehow I fail to see how these would help me in living my life.

Just remember. That's exactly the thing I (for example) am not capable of. I keep forgetting everything. Every time I have some spare time, I am checking my todo first if there's something I need/want/can do.

Seconded. I am feeling the enthusiasm of people on this thread and I am really curious - if this could really make me as happy as it makes them I’m totally game, but I just don’t see where it would fit into my workflow. Can some people give more concrete examples of what they use it for?
pilina · 4 years ago
I am not a dev. But I've built dependency on following workflow: Navigating to right file -> taking full path to clipboard (Ctrl + Shift + C) -> switching to work app, e.g. CAD (Alt + Tab) -> Open dialog (Ctrl + O) -> Paste full path (Ctrl+V) and hit Enter. That's the main reason for I can't use GNOME and that awful GTK file dialog. I can navigate really quickly in commanders, because I've used them since I've started using computer - so that makes this workflow legit for me.
