Do you need to know internals of a database or just use them as a tool. If you hit some bottleneck, you go deep.

My favorite conspiracy theory:

After Tiananmen, the CCP planned many contingents next time something similar happened.

Cue, the [2019 Hong Kong Democracy Protests][1]. The MSS releases Covid19 at the peak of the protests (actually they do pick Wuhan so they can use lab leak as a plausibility if needed) in Sep 2019 and later they use the lockdown laws to completely clamp down the protests.

Keeping a lot of the incriminating evidence on him (including, it seems, the jacket) can't be a careless mistake (in my opinion). So what are some of the possible reasons?

- He committed the crime and had another target in mind

- He committed the crime and really didn't think he'd get away with it so he kept it to keep some unknown options open.

- He committed the crime and didn't want any doubt that he was guilty when he got caught. Perhaps he wanted the media to be focussed more on the "why" than "is it him?" speculation.

How about some of the possible reasons he was at a McDonalds instead of many other ways to get food that wouldn't have security cameras

- He was ready to be caught as the media cycle was moving on and he perceived momentum of empathy for him right now

- He was ready to be caught because being on the run was too hard and not inline with his goals

- He wasn't thinking clearly and didn't really have much of a post-shooting plan outside of getting out of NYC

- He felt safe in that town

- He overestimated his support

Most likely he realized once the authorities have his name - he can't run forever.

That being said - some obvious stuff he could have done like grow a beard and shave it after and fly out of the country to somewhere cheap like Thailand with $10k

Though this is a common issue, it is certainly bothersome when someone _wrongly_ assumes you are experiencing the XY problem and demands a lot of unnecessary information before helping you with something.

Why not respond with both X and Y? e.g. for the last 3 character thing, here would be an appropriate response:

To get the last 3 characters, do `echo ${foo: -3}`. Are you trying to get the file extension though? What if the extension is not 3 characters e.g. `foo.jpeg`? You then want to do `${foo##*.}`

One major safety benefit of a manual is that some conscious or at least coordinated action is needed to get the car going.

Compare to an automatic or especially electric car, which will creep forward by itself and can accelerate strongly with an absent-minded prod of the accelerator.

These have much greater risk of unintended acceleration from a stop, which is the cause of a lot of accidents (mixing up the pedals, basically). Ironically in this way the manual car is more 'idiot-proof'.

Teslas have creep off by default.
