Assuming he owns the green end.org.uk domain, why not letting people land on putty.greenend.org.uk ?

Should probably link to https://github.com/palantir/javapoet instead, as the Square version has been deprecated since 2020.

Palantir does Java? Jikes !

RIP Chris. We briefly exchanged emails during the development of Hack. Having read the obituary, I understand better now why I sensed so much goodness and positive energy from only a couple of paragraphs.

Hack is a beautiful font, long time user since its inception. I even use it in the terminal. Any other fonts I tried always felt slightly off for some reason and I keep going back to Hack. Knowing he had a hand in it, I'll give Google Sans Code a try.

If anyone is looking to get started with a homelab at a good price, I can highly recommend checking ebay for a Dell Wyse 5070. They flooded the market for $50 and are likely powerful enough for many needs. They have a M.2 slot that support SATA. The 'extended' version also has space for a small pcie card and has a parallel and 2 serial ports for a blast to the past.

What if power consumption is taken into account? Are there any devices in that category that are ok to leave on 24/7 ?

I took a continuing education class from Stanford on ML recently and this was my main takeaway. Even the experts are just kinda poking it with a stick and seeing what happens.

That's just how science happens sometimes and how new discoveries are made. Heck even I have to do that sometimes with the codebase of large legacy applications. It's not en unreasonable tactic sometime.

Visiting one with a probe would surely be amazing in it's own right...but hitching a ride would mean matching velocities with them. And if you can do that...you're already in the same orbit, so the comet doesn't really help.

The comet having virtually unlimited fuel would be of great help.

It's all git based now. They've tried to turn it into a version of github that is just for public projects, and with a 2004 UI.
pandemic_region · a month ago
I don't remember 2004 SF ui having such a treacherous download page. Is it downloading? Should I click this thing that does its best to not look like an ad? What about all these other banners I'm so lost crikey.

> who find that solar-plus-storage costs have declined so much that it can now provide baseload-level power in sunny cities for less than the cost of new nuclear or even new gas.

What about cities that only get enough sun from about April to late September? If your battery is doing almost nothing during the other half of the year, it becomes way less cost effective. Still good, but takes twice as long to be really profitable.

The Goland and Pycharm experience must be radically different from the Java experience then.
