Ha ha ha, NASA. Relocating Beavers, eh?

Proof that the American Imperialist State wants to force relocate Canadians to Mars, so they can take over our maple farms, and use their output as feed stuff! Feed stuff for their genetically grown, bacterialogocal vats producing mind control agents!

Everyone, the news has been withheld! Filtered! The massive fires in Quebec forests, are us denying the US our precious maple sugar! We set those fires, thus preventing an invasion!

Don't let them do this to Canada! Your country will be next! Resist, and mak<no carrier>

So… you didn’t read it? This comment is wild and entertaining!

I will never understand when a company/government entity pay people a high salary then give them crap or low-end hardware. You should be maxing out dev machines and the rest of the company should rarely see a spinner or have to wait on their tech. It's a huge waste of time that you are paying for. I once calculated how much time I wasted waiting on slow processes at a job and then multiplied it by my effective hourly rate... I could have bought multiple maxed out MBPs with the money they lost, it's ridiculous. Also it's not just the time they spend waiting, it absolutely slaughters productivity, focus, and motivation.

They don't buy a laptop but a seat for some amount of years. So they're guaranteed X amount of laptops for Y years.

The selling company is obviously going to min/max this contract as much as they can. You could order a bunch of laptops if you had the authority I guess, but it will not be making on to the network since that is under contract too (probably the same company)

You are so right. The earth is flat. Shaving is bad. God cares about who you have sex with.

I like the work that Sikh community does. I've come across many good Sikh people. But their beliefs regarding hair is harmful in this case.

ortuna · 4 years ago
One of the reasons to not cut your hair and wear a turban is that a Sikh can't hide out in a crowd. You always know who is Sikh. This coupled with the mandate that a Sikh must always help those in need means that you always know where to look and ask for help.

From my perspective (US), this is a much needed belief today since it was born out of the similar circumstances in 1699.

My experience as a life long resident of the bay area is the children of immigrants very quickly adapt. In the bay area you have first world highly trained engineers whose parents were iron age dirt farmers in Southeast Asia.

It's very easy to adapt (as an immigrant). It's not rocket science. I wonder what the argument is going to be since it's way easier with the internet now to be primed already.

Aside but relevant:

If you want to give up, tried and failed, keep trying. Every time you make a serious attempt you are more likely to make it stick than the last time you tried. Pick a day a week out, prepare for it do it. Doesn't stick. Repeat.

It's one of the great myths that you can't because you didn't. You can and you're better placed to succeed at it. Do it for some people who love you. Good luck!

ortuna · 5 years ago
I must have tried ~15 or 20 times to quit. I mean really, going at least a week without smoking. I was ~1 pack a day. It stuck the last time, and it's been 5 years I think? People said you'd never stop craving it, which was true for a while. Today, I really don't think about it at all.

These were like a rash in PDX last summer but did not appear to last the winter. I haven't seen one in months. I declare this fad dead.

Look again, they are back. City did a trial for 3 or 4 companies and gave a permit to 2 this time around. So they’re back for a while.

Doubt. is this just me?

This is awesome. Question though: how is producing license plate data like this not a disallowed privacy invasion? It seems like you could totally track who's parking where and potentially do nasty stuff, if you know (say) someone well-off whom you don't like and who doesn't seem to mind getting tickets on a regular basis.
ortuna · 7 years ago
In a lot of states you used to be able to get the address of a license plate with $5 in admin fees. Not sure if that is still allowed.
