orthecreedence commented on I'm returning my Framework 16   yorickpeterse.com/article... · Posted by u/YorickPeterse

I'm on a Framework 13. Aside from the wretched 4:3 screen size (which I knew in advance, it was a tradeoff, but my god I miss 16:10) I really do like it. No battery issues, the thing is incredibly fast. I've had the pleasure of repairing parts of it (screen, keyboard) and it has been super easy. The touchpad's button click could be a little more "tuned" (I miss physical separate buttons), but that's my only functional gripe.

But seriously, make a 14" 16:10 Framework please. I will buy a new one just for that.

I have to say, this comes across as incoherently babbling by someone with an axe to grind. The things they say are bad about Lemmy/Matrix are in conflict with the other things they want.

The person who wrote this just wants a centralized, moderated chat/social media system. Use Discord/Slack/Reddit if you don't like the resiliency of decentralized systems. There are some legit gripes in this massive list, but 90% of this reads as "I want Matrix to be centralized!" Good news, that exists already!

That’s a pretty lengthy list.

The illegal content one is I think the most problematic. Meta and friends don’t employ teams of psychological scarred content moderators for giggles…

So why not centralize THAT? Build federated (or hell, p2p) protocols and pay some company that has editor access JUST to do moderation.

There are tons of systems where it's decentralized up until the point where centralization makes sense. It doesn't have to be all or nothing.

`ClickHouse (which I'm the author of)` just casually dropped that in the middle

It was so casual I didn't even notice it until you pointed it out XD

I don't see how you could have gotten that from actually reading what I wrote.

That's what did it. I initially interpreted it s "and their opinion shouldn't be counted" where I think you were saying "and they have little to no influence."

People are mad about this but, in the end, not really mad enough to do anything. California has high volumetric, margin rates for electricity but the typical monthly electric bill just isn't that high, because we don't need that much of it. The median bill is estimated to be $135 – $165/month, that's in the middle of the pack for the 50 states. Moreover, the people who can effectively get mad about this — rich people and retirees — don't suffer from it because they are protected by rooftop solar, special rates for seniors, etc. The people most exposed to the marginal prices are the ones renting old, inefficient dwellings, and they don't get a voice.

This comes off very much as "stop being poor lol." Was that your intent?

In that case it would be better to say "banned from school libraries", because they are not banned in general.

So, banned then?
