I don't understand why they're building a type system when TypeScript exists, just to name one of great projects they mention.
Is there a manifesto somewhere that describes why this project is taking the high-risk path of boiling the ocean, instead of defining a set of best-in-class projects and improving integration over time? (The "Philosophy" page in the docs isn't helpful in this respect.)
Forget the pwn how do I do this
Also, HN used to think this was cool now there are 20 posts blaming the hacker…
Fun fact: the `bell` control character is part of the ascii standard (and before that the baudot telegraph encoding!) and was originally there to ring a literal bell on a recipient's telegraph or teletype machine, presumably to get their attention that they had an incoming message.
To keep backwards compatibility today's terminal emulators trigger the system alert sound instead.
PR in action!
He's had an excellent PR machine running since Friday and the opposing faction seems to have exactly none (which makes sense given their relative roles and backgrounds). So reporters and Twitter get carefully crafted leaks, tips, and comments from one side and nobody on the other side has the experience, connections, and confidence to push back with a different narrative. And so the story drifts in their favor.
This is why professional PR is a thing and earns people lots of money.
Instead I just don't pay anyone, turn back when I encounter a paywall and look for someone's summary if I'm really interested.
For me personally I tried svelte in the past and bounced off because there was too much implicitly happening that I needed to have a deep understanding of to model correctly. This solves basically all those problems for me.
I thought your video[1] especially did a great job walking through the pros this change brings. Thanks for all your great work on this!
