Are we assuming that older academics are more tolerant to being shouted down because older academia tolerated shouting more? It may just be that younger academics have always been less ok with dramatics on campus. We need to compare this to the same survey done generations ago.

I think you may have read the parent's statistics backwards. Their point (correct or incorrect) was that younger academics are more accepting of the suppression of speech.

Sure, but if you really did find a way to double your productivity, you can probably find a way to translate that into significantly higher income although probably not right away.

Realistically, whoever manages you will take credit for the additional productivity and leverage it to get more money for themselves.

I work as a land surveyor. I'm outdoors every day, often in the woods. The pay is decent and the work is rewarding.

you stole a term which means something else in an established domain and now assert that the ship has sailed, whereas a perfectly valid term in both domains exists. don't be a lazy smartass.

This is exactly how language works; words are adopted across domains and change meaning over time.

Fawns, as in female deer? Is hitting them with tractors really a problem?

A female deer is called a doe.

I wish there was a way for the public to vote on all of these bills! We need to be able to give feedback to these senators about what the public wants. And to me the public wants DJI.

Yes, if only there was some kind of democratic process in this country, where citizens could influence the laws that are passed...

The biggest challenge to this is weather. Do you really want to roll down your window and get soaked in a rainstorm to pick a #1 with a diet coke?

Most drive-thrus I've ever seen (Ohio, US) have zero cover and you are completely exposed to whatever mother nature wants to throw at you. Even the service window itself may have a tiny 24" awning that barely helps. In fact in my experience during rain it makes it worse as you get runoff right on top of the vehicle since they don't have rain gutters.

nsvd · a year ago
Interesting, almost all drive-throughs here have an awning.

Please reconsider your "a lower case only blog, purely for aesthetics." decision. It's a gimmick and makes it unnecessarily harder for readers.

I find it quite nice. Everyone has their own tastes I suppose.

Matrix supports e2e encryption, so it would be a good candidate for self hosting. I already do.
nsvd · a year ago
My only complaint with self-hosting matrix is that the canonical python implementation is quite resource-heavy. I was unable to run it on a cheap VPS. I hope that the ecosystem will improve in the future.
