Yes, let’s go after US Steel because some guy with a gun shot up a school.

Unless Microsoft is directly supplying the software which surveils instead of just “general purpose compute” this isn’t as big as Norway would want you to believe. They can just terminate the accounts as violations of terms of service and claim that millions of users use azure cloud to serve websites and content, the dance will go on.

I don’t think punishing the steel maker for a gun maker who sold it to a distributor who then sold it to a nut job should be liable for the nut job. This is the same for tech. Sub contractors for Israel government got Azure hosting and subbed it out to Palantir to plant their platform inside (gun maker) and then sold it to Israel (nut job).

Palantir on the other hand…

Yes, its general purpose compute. But if you or me use Azure for illegal purpose (pirated content, tax evasion, violence etc etc..), for sure Microsoft won't be sitting idle.

> ..... he calls on the EU to activate an existing blocking regulation (Regulation (EC) No 2271/96) for the International Criminal Court, which prevents third countries like the USA from enforcing sanctions in the EU. EU companies would then no longer be allowed to comply with US sanctions if they violate EU interests. Companies that violate this would then be liable for damages.

That is from that article..

Why would I care when I can get at least 4 years worth of AppleCare from Apple?
nmridul · 9 months ago
Here you can mostly dyi the repair. So you are not stuck waiting for Apple's appointment and repair schedule which would be a week at the minimum that you are grounded. Plus easy upgradeability ..

I appreciate that. It's hard to find the perfect balance.

It's possible to insert notes for each slide (atleast ms office ppt allow that). We do that for our training slides. The notes are detailed descriptions while the slides remain short bullet points.
nmridul commented on HP avoids monetary damages over printers in class-action settlement   arstechnica.com/gadgets/2... · Posted by u/JSR_FDED
autoexec · a year ago
So it sounds like HP pays nothing to the people they hurt, they don't have to admit to doing anything wrong, and they get to continue to kill printers using forced updates as long as they aren't one of 21 specific models, and even for those 21 models they can still kill them using updates as long as they don't call the update a "Dynamic Security feature"?

This is exactly the kind of bullshit "win" that makes class-action lawsuits a total joke for anyone looking for justice, and why corporations continue to engage in user-hostile behavior. They stand to make a lot more money screwing over consumers than they have to fear from lawsuits.

Could the future users (or the users who were not part of current suite) start another class action ?
nmridul commented on What could happen to your TikTok app on Jan. 19   finance.yahoo.com/news/wh... · Posted by u/nmridul

>>> In that scenario the app won’t "magically disappear" from phones, CNET tech reporter Abrar Al-Heeti told Yahoo Finance, but experts said its performance could weaken over time because TikTok’s parent won’t be able to make app store updates.

>>> “The practical effect is, in the short run, what's going to happen is new users won't be able to download the app in any of the marketplaces,”

nmridul commented on See how a lab-grown diamond is made   washingtonpost.com/busine... · Posted by u/mzs

Diamonds are possibly the biggest scam in human history. Supply and price controlled by a single entity and a marketing campaign to buy a diamond ring for your marriage proposal, which has turned into a worldwide norm. Did you know that before this, people didn't propose with rings whatsoever?

Diamonds are pretty, but if you participate in this industry, you've been taken advantage of.

nmridul · a year ago
Just wondering how much does these machines cost and why we are we not making such machines at large scale ? Surely diamonds are in demad beyond jewellery. So making these machines at scale and reducing their cost could disrupt these "scammers"..
