ngcc_hk commented on We should have the ability to run any code we want on hardware we own   hugotunius.se/2025/08/31/... · Posted by u/K0nserv

Run meant run ok and that meant support if it not running … should have the ability meant we can do it on our own … does it major any sense in general. No.

You can agree on anti-monopoly but to say we (who is we here) can do this without any resource consideration is not thinking but wishful thinking.

Open source is not wishful thinking but until the user pay …

The Internet was philosophically designed to move information, and for every effort to prevent that there is a workaround. There will always be a free protocol.

Same as market; anything that does not use it will use less efficient alternatives like politics. Sadly market like tao and politics has no moral either.

This is part 12 … the title seems to hint on how do one think about Gpu today … eg why llm comes about. Instead it is about cf with tpu? And then I note the part 12 … not sure what one should expect to jump in the middle of a whole series and what … well may stop and move on.

Unlike Apple, Microsoft failed its move to mobile and its computing. Majority of apple software run on arm before the arm transition. That is not true for Microsoft.

More interesting than I thought it could be. A domain specific tutorial is so much better.
ngcc_hk commented on Apple and Amazon will miss AI like Intel missed mobile   gmays.com/the-biggest-bet... · Posted by u/gmays

Is Intel lost the mobile? Or a better question has arm lost mobile … the key is today the most profitable part is not arm even it has the isa.

Intel lost the hardware fight. But it lost all along as the most profitable part is software or who control the ecosystem. Microsoft and Apple. Not Intel.

It is amd cannot beat nvidia but the ecosystem of Ai (but not game) is what the lost is.

Now what ecosystem apple and Amazon lost … can it get to avoid nvidia controlling their Ai ecosystem. I doubt very much.

The title is v general. There are at least two kind of modifications - one to minimize the change but just change behaviour and the other is really change the program.

I work for a decade as mainframe technical support mostly install fix. And because of these lately when I spent 3 months as a hobby to change the turbo bridge to take external bridge card. I injected code or hacking of the code like jes2 exit and without touching much the host program modify the host program behaviour.

This is very different from my colleagues who are application programmer who can totally change a cics module involving even changing db2 schema.

What is a modification meant in this title … I wonder.

They despise users becoming developers. Apple's entire model depends on these being separate groups of people (as opposed to GNU/Linux OSes where they're assumed to be exactly the same.)

Keeping development tools away from users gives Apple a substantial amount of power over them that they can rent out to approved software development organizations.

That is Microsoft. Apple for small developers just paid $100 per year got you there. And tbh the terminal and underlying unix shell is real.
