I have two babies:

- My pure math research (nothing to do with my day job). Possibly resulting in a part-time PhD program.

- My financial portfolio (again not related to my day job).

These two babies of mine are as precious and valuable to me (maybe more) than your human babies are to you. Oh, and they take way more time.

Do I get extra benefits as a parent of two babies?

Comparing your math research and stock portfolio to raising children, especially when using amount of time as part of the argument, is indescribably laughable.

I just signed up for https://repl.it/

I’d like to kick back on my couch and code for an hour using my iPad and Apple Pencil.

I’m anxiously awaiting for someone to image a better mobile experience rather than attaching a hardware keyboard.

I was working on this in 2010! Perhaps, I'll revisit my 'no typing' editor ideas.

I watched it and it was awesome. With all the practice and planning ahead, there were many small last minute decisions made. Maneuvering the unplanned landing zone was nail biting!

I have been getting financial emails from several people for many years at my GMail ID. They apparently have given my address but without the dot.

But what mystifies me is how these people keep going for years without ever realising they aren't getting account transaction emails (from their banks), notifications of stock trades, even OTP emails etc. How is it possible for people to use these services for years without ever wondering why they aren't getting the routine emails they're supposed to get or even why they aren't getting the OTP email they had generated?

Also none of the institutions I contacted to ask their clients to update their correct email bothered to do so. On the contrary they sent me back what looked like automated replies asking if their customer service was satisfactory.

At this point I'm sorely tempted to delete my email and start over with another service provider. The nuisance of having to delete almost a dozen emails not meant for you every single day is annoying to say the least. At least with spam you get it sent to spam folder and there it stays. Confidential emails not meant for you is awkward and uncomfortable to have to put up with.

I've purchased a truck in Florida, been going to college in (I forget which state) for a few years now, opened an LLC AND filed for divorce with Legal zoom, was part of a venture partnership with multiple personal invite and discussion emails about investment meetings, and more! I've responded many times to these and the only replies are from the last one, and Legal zoom (who told me sorry, disregard it??)

SAS are better, but for my NAS/Media server needs I use SATA. I have 8x8TB, 2x4TB and 1x500GB SSD...all within a 2U rackmount server that set me back less than $250 that includes things like backup power supplies and 192GB of RAM. I bought another 1U rackmount to run my personal website and NVR (Zoneminder).

Out of all the setups I've read about here, I would love to hear more about yours and the costs involved, please?

This is pretty great. I think DHH will get a kick out of it.

My favorite parody site made fun of web frameworks and called them "crystal node grunt gems for ninjas". The whole website was genius, but I can't seem to find it anymore. :(

Does anybody else have any more parody sites? (Or know the one I'm referring to?)

From the TM policy:

'In addition, you may not use any of the Marks as a syllable in a new word or as part of a portmanteau (e.g., "Gitalicious", "Gitpedia") used as a mark for a third-party product or service without Conservancy's written permission.'

I feel like I can offer a unique perspective on this because I go to Notre Dame and we are just finishing the first week of classes with everyone back on campus. It's gone alright so far. All the cases so far have been traced back to off campus bars or parties. However, I expect it to get worse soon as cases start spreading on campus. If you want to see how Notre Dame is doing with cases and testing we have a dashboard here: https://here.nd.edu/our-approach/dashboard/

I really hope we can make this work because, as an electrical engineer, most of my classes can't be moved online.

I grew up in South Bend, and most of the 'Fighting Irish' near campus bars are way too small for social distancing. Pre-covid, all of them were shoulder to shoulder packed with students and locals. Please be careful celnardur. It's a wonderful place and campus, enjoy your time there.
newtoday commented on Welders set off Beirut blast while securing explosives   maritime-executive.com/ar... · Posted by u/tafda

I had never heard that one. I do have a strong memory of a small bit of spatter from a welding arc ending up in my boot. Never knew I could dance that well. That's why I prefer to never use resin core for wire welding because it spatters like mad. Better use solid core and gas, if it is available (unfortunately not always).

I'll add that if you're not wearing an apron, definitely don't tuck in your shirt!
