nemasu commented on Ask HN: What are you working on? (April 2025)    · Posted by u/david927

I'm working on creating a volume mixer, basically like Deej, but more polished.

Some things I'm planning on including: - App drag & drop for assignment. - Programmable macro buttons. - Small OLED displays to show app icon and volume levels.

Attempting to do everything in Rust too, even the MCU firmware. It's been a lot of fun. xD

Try Dyson Sphere Program then.

Not as repayable as factorio but still good fun.

Yes! I was hoping someone mentioned this already. I had soo much fun with DSP, ended up needing to track all my shipments in a spreadsheet. I really hope the upcoming combat system works out so I have an excuse to play it again.

Not quite as pre-historic, but along similar lines, I quite enjoyed Honzuki no Gekokujou (Ancendance of a bookworm), a series about a book-loving girl reborn as a sickly poor commoner child in a fantasy world and her attempts to create books (and other modern products) from scratch.

I just finished binging the first 2 seasons after reading this, thank you.

I'm quite looking forward to the GPD Win Max 2 coming out next month. It's exactly the device I've been wanting for a couple decades.

Same! I just wish the hinge was 360 degrees, using the pen looked awkward.

Well duh. They have to comply with anti-money laundering regulation.

This was my first thought too. But it seems like any purchase, even if Google isn't involved, is logged.

Wow. It's not even just everything you buy from Google--from the post it seems like they actively compile and organize the data from every purchaser transaction that touches your GMail account.

I think we deserve to hear from Google about this one. Unless we have already?

I wonder if it's to get that fancy header at the top of purchase emails.

Same here. I had to make sure it wasn't April 1 again.

It's interesting that the Sony Experia Play phones never got anywhere. They were pretty impressive.

Great job on releasing the project!

Had a similar iOS app years ago that would make chat groups with everyone in a 1km radius [1]. In the end our largest hurdle was getting enough users together per location.

Thanks. I made something similar a while ago myself called Shoutium, basically the same thing. More simpler this time around tho. Users are always difficult to get, this too will probably also fizzle out.

Location based chatting is a privacy nightmare. How do you protect against stalkers using this tool for triangulating the actual physical location of someone?

If the GPS coordinatates are client-generated, then it would be possible to spoof the coordinates and generate a search pattern rather quickly.

Competition like grindr and badoo try to randomize the distances.

I truncate the GPS data server side, it's a bit over 1KM accurate.
