This reminds me of how the US military and defense contractors always play up the capabilities of other countries in order to get higher budgets. Except in the AI case it is to maintain a super low level of regulation.

Pretty neat stuff. I would recommend people start with 'An outline of Occult Science' by Rudolf Steiner. He sets right a lot of the stuff Blavatsky put out. She was an amazing woman but she was not perfect, and a lot of the new age embarrassment is due to the Theosophical society.

So CNN dogged their source and didn't even make a statement? Seems like a serious journalist outfit would be like "ooh shid we fugged up here's what we're changing". The source in this case is lucky to get off with a slap on the wrist, what if it was something so much more important and risky?

When I was younger I failed upwards in a bank when I was "trained" in mortgage settlement incorrectly and I didn't care to learn properly. Nobody wanted to admit they made a bad hire so I was promoted upwards and sideways to get out of peoples hair and become someone elses problem. You might be surrounded by people like that, or you might be surrounded by people that have realised that hard work is punished with more hard work.
