In the same analogy, doesn't that mean that vendor-locked software like iOS or ChromeOS would be akin to vendor-locked seeds from Monsanto?

Bayer these days and yes, avoid like the plague for nothing good will come of it.

And you will forever have your name mispronounced by English speakers that can’t wrap their tongues around the -sma or -stra ending.

Things like TerpSON, TerpSmith, Terp….

One time while voting the lady working there butchered my name 8 times, she literally could not get it right.

Can confirm, usually misunderstood too.

Who says it will be right? There are no real consumer protections any more. Why not just lie about it?

Well, this isn’t really that big of a problem. Just let the price overflow. That should make it easier for them to just split the stock next time they get there ;)

With all the weird structures of stock lending and synthetics going around, I believe it's been extremely valuable for Buffet to keep it as it is for all these years.

Personally I'm all for having mini reactors if it means we can generate reliable energy with minimal pollution. Anything that helps reduce emissions should be considered.

But this would need to be a fail save type of reactor and with a clear plan(s) all the way down to how the waste is handled till it's no longer active.

Ads have gotten to the point I'm once again getting the feeling I'm on IE with 80% of the page blocked by toolbars. But this time it's ads and video's blocking any content I want to consume.

Blockers are a valuable thing to simply be able to read or watch anything on most sites now a days. I also happily pay for proper media, but not when you complicate this by blocking parts of this action with ads to begin with.

The Netherlands is densely populated. There isn't as much space available compared to most other countries.
mrarjen · 6 years ago
This is mainly the case in the cities, other area's offer more space that is similar to other countries.

Also Amsterdam is the peak of tiny spaces here. Single bedroom 25 m2, with shared toilet/kitchen for sale can cost you €100.000,- easily.

> they listen to you talking to your wife through your phone about buying a mattress, going to a concert, taking a trip somewhere. Next time you open the browser you are bombarded with relevant ads.

I've heard this from non-tech family/friends.

Is this actually happening though? If so, who is doing it and how?

Edit: I'm referring specifically to ad tech that targets ads based on overheard conversations.

It's not proven yet I guess? But then again, the big companies keep saying they don't record/listen to voice commands for assistants either.

But the reports of third party companies suddenly having access to this data (for quality improvement purposes) tells another story.

Also my YouTube keeps suggesting videos for any show my phone is near when it plays.

> 9. Global carbon emissions are not reduced, mostly because of lack of initiative by China and 3rd world countries.

Ya let's blame it all on other people.

mrarjen · 6 years ago
Also lack of initiative by many 1st world countries, hopefully there will be plenty of new technologies developed in the coming years that reduce or capture carbon.

But with current developments this will be far too little too late and it will be a rough ride forward.
