Sorry, but unless I can manage my email with sensible rules, I'm not going to manage it.

I need to be able to have rules that let me move email automatically after it's been read or after it's been in the Inbox for some time. But that's not really possible with most server side rules engines (they only look at mail when it arrives), client side rules engines are dead and I don't use email from a fixed desktop machine anyway, and I'm not going to write an imap based filtering engine (I did it once on company equipment, and it wasn't fun enough to do it again).

So Inbox 40,000 it is.

I've recently started writing an app intended for a raspberry pi that uses IMAP to automate this exact thing.

The goal is for it to apply the rules and followup with actions while still letting me interact with my email from any client I want.

> It's a mindset I don't understand.

one of the scenarios is the person that is not looking on the enjoyment of "winning", but instead diving on the "trolling" realms of ruining the fun of others.

its irrelevant if he gets a ban because when he hears someone getting mad at him or sad, he gets a boner.

the mentality of "trying to punch people that cant defend themselves" is the description that i give of these to people that dont play video games. (because most wouldn't cheat without the anonymity)

I'd also consider that, for these people, getting away with the cheating _is the game_ for them. What they're cheating at might be less important.

Lots of people in the comments supporting cellphone bans in school. To play the devil's advocate: the role of high school is to transition students between childhood and adulthood. In adulthood, nobody will tell you to get off your phone. You will simply suffer repercussions if you cannot preform. If you can perform, nobody should care. So why are we babying students by incessant confiscation and phone cubby nonsense? "ok 17 year olds! lets put our phones away in our numbered phone cubbies!!"

Redirect them, sure. Teach about tech literacy. Find the middleground between these two stages of life. But at this point, it should be ultimately the student's choice.

Short of jail, nowhere in adulthood are you required to stay somewhere by law.

On top of that, I don’t think the kid quietly using their phone and ignoring class is the main issue here… it’s causing issues with the other kids and making the experience worse for a lot of kids.

I tend to agree, however, I typically tell people that if you see longer function names, you should watch out for complexity. In fact, if I have to write some overly complex code that I can’t isolate for some reason, I will usually try to show it in the names being extra long.

To paraphrase The Economist, "This device is amazing, and now Apple needs developers to figure out what it's for."

Computers were invented to speed up calculations, and yet the primary thing we use them for today is to read the news and send each other messages and memes…

I think it’s totally reasonable, to expect developers to find the real use

A “Trust this AirTag” option, perhaps requiring the AirTag’s owner’s device to be involved as well, could solve this issue.
mpolichette · 3 years ago
I think this option is still ripe for issues within a domestic abuse situation. The abuser would simply use their phone to “trust it”.

Maybe a longer dismissal though?

It doesn't matter how much I look at them, and I get the reasoning, but the right->left flow orientation of VCS diagrams will always be disorienting for me.
mpolichette · 3 years ago
I always have to remind myself that they’re dependency arrows and not a sequence ordering.

They make it look like it flows right to left even though time (or at least sequence) flows left to right.
