CLEAR | NYC | Fullstack Software Engineer | clearme.com

I'm currently an SE at CLEAR and am quite enamored with the company and product as a whole. We have a ton of open positions and I'd love to talk about any of them (email below), but one in particular I love is our open Fullstack Engineer position.

We use a lot of React and Node and Java, and if you're a big fan of those and are at least mid-level, please check out this referral link: https://grnh.se/80082f9b1us This position will report to an especially cool manager to have, which is personally a huge thing for me when I'm job searching.

Or if you'd like a referral for any of our other positions, please reach out to me (mathew.leland@clearme.com) and I'd be happy to chat with any job you see on our site! :)

Great. I hope they bring charges against Tesla for causing deaths that were completely avoidable.

In fact we keep talking about AI ethics and so on. But we seem to have missed this very basic key ethical point: when Silicon Valley VC funded madness via AI/ML crap is pushed at breakneck speeds via these metal torpedoes, who is taking accountability?

It's really amazing that Elon is worried about AI overlords when a 'simple' autopilot is not engineered to ethical standards. (Same goes for people like Andrej Karpathy and co who should take the blame and publicly apologize/resign).

Shameful.

Glad Germany is ahead of the curve.

Out of curiosity, what part of the driving AI of tesla would you say is currently not lining up with ethical standards?

I feel like the projects that rely on bootstrap are ones that have a larger IE audience.

I hate supporting IE, but that has always been the appeal of bootstrap for me.

As a normal user, I have seen 0 reasons to switch off of Facebook here that I care about, and I don't even understand how it works.

What would need to happen is that all of "my" friends would have to start using another service.

I find it quite interesting how much of the public face of React that Dan Abramov has become. I really like the openness with which he speaks via his blog, but it feels like all the important React announcements come through him and I'm sure there must be some other very senior FB developers who created React before he arrived who might not be so happy.
mleland · 7 years ago
Dan has been so cordial in every interaction I've seen with him. He can be more conscientious than many devs, so I'm sure it is a talent that the React team likes to showcase.

Are they really only taking this stand because Amazon is looking to get a government contract for its Rekognition software, and Microsoft is trying to deter that?
