Doesn't reddit block VPNs as well?

If you're ever in the Netherlands, check out FEBO: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FEBO -- same kind of thing.

Looking at the video, the cable looks ... fragile. Would a large bird landing on it do the same amount of damage?

Shouldn't it be thick, armoured cable, attached to a strong wire or something?

This is so cool, the little mini screenshots look gorgeous because it replicates MacOS. I’m not sure if a lot of people feel the same but over the years I always thought it was a shame that Linux’ overall UX and aesthetics seemed a little bit more rushed and “crowd sourced” (in the sense that it felt diverse in terms of ui opinions and taste etc). It almost makes me want to try Linux again just for that look and feel (because I love my Mac’s but would like something different and more free)

To me, it looks a lot like Uncanny Valley macOS. Yes, it's macOS, but something's just not right. Maybe the fonts don't look right, or the spacing of the icons on the dock?

Maybe it’s because I studied in Austria where universities generally provide very little handholding to students but I don’t understand the point of compulsory attendance in university lectures. If students think they can pass exams without attending the lectures then they should be able to do that. I certainly did that once or twice when I realized I needed some more credits before the end of the term. It’s a different thing with lab/exercise sessions but your lack of participation there would be noticed anyway.

I take attendance (the old-fashioned way) in my college classes for a couple of reasons:

- Some students are "sponsored" by scholarships or organizations that request attendance data. - I want to know the attendance record for a student who is asking for an extension, or extra-credit work, or some other informal accommodation. - I like to draw fancy graphs correlating attendance and final grades.

But other than that, I don't care if students are in class or not. They're adults. Learning is their responsibility.

I don't think it's appropriate for a professor to use this feature. Am I in the minority?

It's a good sales job. Someone sold them a "high tech" solution for a problem that's already been solved. We had attendance rolls long before we had computers.

> “The only thing I have is Preview, and I have to look at one photo at a time,” Shan says. “It’s crazy. I got fed up with it so I looked at different apps.”

Select files in Finder, option + double click on them, and you have many photo files accessible in a single Preview window.

This also works in quicklook. Highlight the photos (command-A for all of them), and press the spacebar. Then there's a "tile icon" that will show you all of them.

This doesn't answer the question. Why not use the internet to get the radio to those stations?

Isn't that what they do now? They describe a lot of the IP-based transmission stuff in the link.

Since no one else has noted it: they show rail lines and only rail. No roads on those maps. This includes some quite obscure ones like the railway between Labrador and Sept-Iles, Quebec. (It has almost no traffic and it serves a small town and a mine and it's not connected to the rest of the North American system.) Similarly they depict sections of rail in Canada that were out of service many years before this map was published. So they're quite out of date. To not show that Canada is linked by rail with the USA at Detroit is a definite oversight, too.

Seeing through the lens of railroads is probably an artifact of both ideology and the economic reality in North Korea. And maybe also the implicitly military purpose of these maps.

I guess the maps are old, because they show the Newfoundland Railway, which was removed in the 80s.
