Product manager ex. game designer with a number of puzzle/word game in operation here.

- Having a timer (urgency) is usually not a very good idea for thinky games. If you insist on having a timer consider making it count upwards.

- Additionally as other commenters mentioned is the game is a time trial it needs an explicit “Start” button. Also stop the timer when user is not playing e.g. reading the rules.

- There’s no point of having a “Play again” option for a Wordle style daily game, the thinking part is already done, so any replay is just an exercise in dexterity.

- It’s okay to be US-centric actually, doesn’t matter unless you are very serious about monetizing it, and even then being US-centric will work.

- Consider showing rules for first time users before staring the puzzle.

- Consider having some sort of overarching thing in your puzzle, so it’s not just five words on a specific topic to guess, but something more, like a hidden word across all five etc. This makes a delightful discovery moment and sometimes might work as a clue.

The world has sadly changed a lot in recent months.

Might want to have an international version too?

I don't know US sport teams.

Will I finally understand transistors?
megadata · 5 months ago
It helps a lot understanding diodes first. Like, really understand them. Then transistors are built on top of that knowledge.

Sometimes an idea is upvoted more than the content at the submitted link, I think. i.e. people that want to learn and enjoy the discussion here, regardless of whether they end up thinking the Monk book is a useful resource to do so.

I can also highly recommend "The Art of Electronics" by Horowitz and Hill.

That's an awful recommendation for an entry level electronics.

Nice, no sooner then Linux forcing Remote Desktop on us to the exclusion of Network Transparency, Microsoft is obsoleting it.

So, will Linux follow Microsoft and move to something else ? That seems to be what the Linux Foundation is good for.

Wait, Linux what? Gotta link?

""Politics are polarizing because humans tend to label people and put them into buckets," Stanley said. "Once labeled, individuals are often treated according to the bucket they are placed in, rather than considering each topic. This oversimplifies complex issues and contributes to division."

Which is exactly what most politicians do to non-policitians....

Things are also being labelled left/right, where they really should be labelled humane/inhumane or normal/sociopathy, criminal/not.

Truth is so overrated these days.
megadata · 5 months ago
Exactly! The are so many alternatives, why do we have to place THE truth so highly?

As a backend person, sometimes I look at what's being done for front end stuff and pull back in ever so slight horror.

It's an excellent article, and the work within is very well done, but there's a part of me that screams "Why would you introduce this much complexity for what should be a simple scroll?" (overcoming technical hurdles to produce the desired end result aside).

megadata · 5 months ago
> too far down to scroll

Yeah, when you can't easily scroll anymore because it's "too far" then something has gone very, very wrong.
