Really? Those who have had anything to do with gliders know there is plenty that can and will go wrong. Landing on-tow !?!? And what's the benefit - they might save a little in cruise, but they've got to get there (safely) first?

and what happens in the event of a disconnect?

It mentions it has a form of automated control in the tow with "Aerolane's patented Pilot Positioning Assist systems"

Ahh so a simple supply chain attack. I was thinking it might have leveraged the built in batteries. But it was always unlikely, especially in a receive-only device.

Still, if you have the capability of such a supply chain attack, I would imagine the rewards of silent surveillance (tracking, audio) would be of much higher value than this kind of attack where 3 out of 1000s targets were killed.

They will now need to change over to a new or backup communication system, with both the changeover and new platform bringing risks.

I remember the KV-40XBR700. Those suckers were heavy. I worked at Circuit City in 2003 delivering those behemoths to customers until I dropped two in a single day (the handholds on the side weren't very good) and got moved to the warehouse.

They also mention their version is revised, so the version on YouTube is a better candidate for being the “first commercial”.

I guess it's living up to Betteridge's law. "Any headline that ends in a question mark can be answered by the word no." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Betteridge%27s_law_of_headline...

edit: I see its already been mentioned by poochipie.
