I don't know if I've just been excessively lucky, but I've never put a case on any smartphone I've owned since 2010, and I've only cracked the screen on two of them. These days (probably for the past 4 years) I do put the thin-film screen protectors on as well, and replace them if they get damaged.

I've always been of the feeling that I'm buying this lovely, well-designed piece of hardware, why would I want to cover it up in an ugly plastic case?

I don't put cases (or even screen protectors) on mine either (since 2015). I've dropped it many times, obviously, but I've only ever had the edges of the phone get the slightest nicks - which I prefer to having a case on it.

I'm still on the Pixel 3! I can't get off. I bounced off the Pixel 6. It's too big in my hand. The finger print sensor is in a weird spot. Android 13 is more restrictive. And worst? It's not faster or better. It's legitimately a hard _downgrade_ for me.

I have 2 Pixel 3s now (microphone died and battery swelled) but they run everything snappy! I might just keep buying Pixel 3s off eBay, its so much cheaper. My main worry is lack of security updates, especially with the webp vulnerability.

My wife and I are on the pixel 3 still as well. I hate the size of the 8, but that camera sure looks real nice...

Her pixel 3 is also starting to shutdown randomly which is concerning since our last phones were the bootlooping nexus 5x.

I'm the one who made this. The GitHub link was posted on HN yesterday as well, but I'm happy to answer any questions here if people have any!

The few times I posted, my email got scraped and I received some offers which were all not job offers..

This was my experience as well. Not a single real inquiry, just spam. I asked the mods to delete my posts on those threads and the spam email vanished

Did you get anything from your "who wants to be hired" post? It's not been clear to me that it's a useful thing to do.

I just got a lot of spam email until I asked the mods to delete my post and the spam vanished

"Build your own Redis with Rust/Fortran"

If the author actually can't understand the difference between C and C++, there's a pretty low chance of any good code being in the book. If they do, they should keep an eye on the editor next time they go into empty marketing mode for the title.

> The code is written as direct and straightforwardly as the author could. It’s mostly plain C with minimal C++ features.

Sounds fair to me

I spent a month in the hole. It wasn't pleasant.

- I stayed asleep for as long as I could, whenever I could. Chlorpheniramine was readily distributed to prisoners.

- Exercise was difficult for me after the first week, as was motivation for basically anything.

- I read anything they would bring down there.

- We didn't have a choice in the books we had, so picking something to study wasn't really an option. Outside of the hole, I eventually had an outside person send me a biochemistry textbook though. However, being autodidactic is difficult with a single reference.

- No one talked to me in the segregated housing unit, except for correction officers and during the 5-10 minutes I was able to use the phone a day.

- I didn't experience any prison administrators attempting to provoke any inmates. Although, the grievance system was basically a journaling activity.

- I found it very difficult to write anything longer than a paragraph to anyone my whole time in prison.

- I was a known atheist in prison, due to some reading material I received in the mail. Outside of the SHU, people often tried to engage me about my beliefs, which I avoided.

Did this cause any issues other than attempted conversions?
