Firefox proper is getting the ux sugar too, as the article mentioned: https://support.mozilla.org/kb/profile-management
mariusor · 5 days ago
Cool, looking forward to that. The extension needs a host application that needs to be installed on the machine to be able to perform some actions.

I can't use Google Meet on firefox/zen, I tried every setting combination I could find but the video call quality is still not comparable to chromium based browsers, so at work I reluctantly switched to Vivaldi.

If you figure this out please let me know!

I think it's widely speculated that Google sabotages how their own products work in Firefox. I don't know if there is actual evidence to support that though.

It's weird how people always complain about lack of easy profile switching in Firefox. If one tells them that what they are really looking for is containers, they dismiss containers, but then proceed to complain that profiles don't have the same features. If you want sync across browser instances, manage them with one Firefox account... You really want containers not profiles.

Firefox does have profiles, to use them well one only needs a little UX sugar in the form of the Profile Switcher extension: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/profile-switc...

I think we can use technology to do better than paper ballots with hand counting, but one tweet mentioning 25% error rate is not reason enough for this title in my opinion. This smells of "big tabulator" sponsored article. :D

I actually didn't know there were more error codes beyond error code 429

451 is kind of a novelty code, its meaning being related to Bradbury's "Fahrenheit 451" SciFi novel.

I think if you compared the AI stories to works by “top” authors, the results wouldn’t really be as close. No one is confusing a story by Kafka or Conrad with a ChatGPT one.

Because unfortunately, one reason why readers can’t tell the difference between the AI and human authors is because they don’t have much exposure to the greats. The average person reads something like 2 books a year, and they probably aren't reading Nabokov.

With all due respect but at least Robin Hobb, is one of the greats in her domain.

Anyone that started computing using DOS is very aware of terminals.

> I find it uncommon to see anyone who chooses to use a terminal regularly using the MacOS default terminal

If you are going to say that about windows the same could be said about macOS. In fact, I only know of one mac user within my circle that has used the non default terminal.

Anecdotally, at day job, every terminal I see on windows is riced out. The Windows terminal app video from MS probably helped with that lol.

mariusor · 8 days ago
Those millions of users are not at your job, they are not programmers, and they don't use the terminal.

Terminals are not really targeting that entire demographic, and for the one they serve probably Mac/Linux form a majority vs Windows.

Author seems to be very idealistic, and I appreciate that he cares about the quality of the content he provides for free. Personal experience however shows me that when I look at a recipe site I will first have to skip through the entire backstory to the recipe and then try to parse it inbetween annoying ads in a bloated wordpress page. I can't blame anyone who prefers to simply prompt a chatbot for exactly what hes looking for.

How the hell am I supposed to know? It's never been my job to redesign, maintain, or otherwise care about that website, thank goodness. Presumably their CMS sucks in one or more of the same ways as any other.
mariusor · 19 days ago
Again, that's a static piece of text, no CMS needed. I'm all for not attributing to malice what can be equally explained by incompetence, but it's been many administrations in charge of this website and somehow it never happened before. I'd say that some eyebrows need to be raised.
