Nice, but maybe it would have been better to launch a rocket a day to keep the cost away.

> Israel not only pushed them into the middle of a war that is not their war, without their consent or knowledge;

Weren’t they already selling pagers to Hezbollah? It seems like they were already in the war as a supplier of goods to a terrorist organization.

I wonder if this is why Israel made this move because the manufacturer was already breaking international sanction by supplying Hezbollah so they have little recourse.

If I was the CEO of Gold Apollo, I’d be investigating why my franchisee was selling stuff to Hezbollah in the first place.

But it’s beepers and only 5,000. How expensive is this at the end of the day? It’s probably the last time a company lends then brand name for a small amount.

The company was just an letter box. Apollo HongKong produced these devices: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x50wwGjX2Ao

Possibly the pagers had to have a popular brand to "work as designed", and this brand was up for sale, but declares it won't admit this to the real customers.

I guess with QR-Code Menus, Smartphones replacing their tech almost everywhere, Starlink etc. they where happy to take any revenue.

The only way I see this working is for paper authors to include their public keys in the paper; preferably as metadata and have them produce a signed message using their private key which allows them to claim the paper.

While the grandparent is understandably disappointed with the current implementation, relying on emails was always doomed from the start.

Probably it would be better to merge the project with Arxiv and tie it to the accounts there.

This is all fantastic info. I have included the details and a link to these comments at the bottom of the post. Great work!

Tip: Instead of soldering I use splicing connectors with levers for testing stuff like this out. For example:

It really depends on your housing situation.

If you live in the lone, old house on a barren hilltop that gets struck by lightning on a weekly basis, I wouldn't take my chances with showering during the storm either.

Install this, instead of a light in the bathroom: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lightning_rod

The difference in expected utility from showering (either during a lightning storm or not) is minimally affected by the choice to postpone it. That's why I'm content to call it a binary rule.

The choice of showering/bathing at all has a different risk profile, yes, and also a different expected utility. Comparing the two is a false equivalence.

Statistically speaking: our kids (and their parents) simply enjoy watching storms, and we all choose to shower when the risk of lightning is zero. That choice maximizes utility, as our subjective enjoyment of the light show isn't diminished by postponing something as pedestrian as a shower for an hour.

You could improve the grounding instead of spending time making such a light.

Let me tell you about the flesh-eating bacteria living in your sponge. You better microwave it beforehand.

Sure but note that's not "your AI". It's a closed-source, proprietary system by DeepMind who typically publish a result to reap the hype and then bury the system forever (see AlphaGo).

You can just use another implementation nowadays.
