> "Too many android phones copied Apple and ditched the venerable audio jack"

I understand this is a personal preference, but I never understood the anger some people had over the removal when it's as easy as just using a small USB-C to 3.5mm audio jack converter to use wired headphones.

I'm one of those person who were extremely pissed. I've stuck with older phones for a long time to avoid the thing.

The USB to Jack things are brittle and low quality. That's yet another stuff to not lose and carry around.

Jacks just work. If it ain't broken, don't fix it.

Bezos worst offense is meeting with Trump and donating to his campaign (and if you follow the leftist ideology, being a billionaire).

But based on personal experience with some very wealthy people, I truly believe they are just out of touch with the real world to understand what they are doing politically. Imagine if your days could be spent doing all the things you ever could wish, you would most likely not even bother reading stuff like reddit or HN, and certainly won't have time to look into any snippet of news in detail.

Musk on the other hand, is mentally ill.

It's also buying WaPo and altering their editorial make up

Boycott noted, meanwhile, I’ll be enjoying double the roaming data while you wait for that legendary ‘neutral’ competitor to beam down from the heavens.

I live and work from a van part of the year and am perfectly fine with a 4g router almost anywhere save some mountain climbing spot, so there's really no need for me. I pay about 30€ and get about 250GB when in France and 30GB whenever I enter a new country so I'm not lacking considering my usage, but thank you

Nobody has been forced to switch to a space based internet solution.

You don't need to buy from any of those people.

Every author of the free software obviously has rights to full control of the scope of their project.

That being said, I regret that we have switched from good_job (https://github.com/bensheldon/good_job). The thing is - Basecamp is a MySQL shop and their policy is not to accept RDMS engine specific queries. You can see in their issues in Github that they try to stick "universal" SQL and are personally mostly concerned how it performs in MySQL(https://github.com/rails/solid_queue/issues/567#issuecomment... , https://github.com/rails/solid_queue/issues/508#issuecomment...). They also still have no support for batch jobs: https://github.com/rails/solid_queue/pull/142 .

I have no opinion whatsoever yet on SolidQueue, but I'm having a blast with good job. Stuff works pretty well.

Regardless of the price and the data, I'd never subscribe to this service due to the owner. I'm looking forward for alternatives from a more neutral vendor

I do think that this is at the heart of the problem. The issue is not an overall lack of wealth, but how it is distributed. This is not going to change, no matter how many data centres or factories are built in the US. Ultimately, all the wealth will still end up in the hands of a select few.

Not to mention that we are already exceeding a number of planetary boundaries, which endanger humans. The ever-growing demand for natural resources and energy, which is directly coupled to GDP growth, is not likely to end well.

I think he's talking litteraly about distirbuting wealth :)

If "whatever tools they see fit" means "patch quilting" then please no. Leave the stone age and enter the age of modern DVCS.
lta · 3 months ago
git can be seen as porcelain on top of patch quilting so it's not as much done âge as one might think
