> there’s one depressing anecdote that I keep on seeing: the junior engineer, empowered by some class of LLM tool, who deposits giant, untested PRs on their coworkers—or open source maintainers—and expects the “code review” process to handle the rest.

It's even worse than that: non-junior devs are doing it as well.

In the company I’m at this is beginning to happen. PM’s want to “prototype” new features and expect the engineers to finish up the work. With the expectation that it ‘just needs some polishing’. What would be your recommendation on how to handle this constructively? Flat out rejecting LLM as a prototyping tool is not an option.

I am working on a time tracking app. I use it to keep track of time spent vs my estimates, and also just to check my actual working hours. It's fully local—everything is stored in localStorage — but I do have plans for some optional syncing so it can be used on multiple devices.

It has helped me a lot to keep focus while working and track distractions. It might be too tailored for my needs, but have a look: https://zookeeper.fyi

I think it would be better articulated if comparisons to ActivityPub were made. Those are I believe two competing visions of Open Social defined as communication protocol, not a platform. Otherwise it just sounds like evangelizing employer and that compromises the whole “open” concept of the article, fairly.

The author surely knows about competing protocols but prefers at. It would be just as easy to argue the author is biased if a comparison was made. Maybe more informative though.

it's somehow on a block list in ublock. Hence white screen here too, I have to disable adblock to see your site. Maybe the domain used to be for something else before.

Thanks for the feedback - means a lot. I had enabled high level usage tracking on Vercel. I was tracking page views to see if I got any users. I have switched to using Plausible [0], a privacy focused analytics tool, and added an opt out option on first load.

Just FYI, when I open this on mobile iOS, a blank white page appears. Not sure if this is intended or not.
lowkeyokay · 5 months ago
Thanks for checking it out and thanks a lot for telling. Me definitely not intended. It should work now, but I will monitor this.

I am working on a time tracking app for tasks. I built it because I want to gain a better understanding of how I spend my working days. It's meant to be very simple. Everything is stored locally and requires no login. I don't currently plan to sync it with any backend. This isn't something that can be used to track employees — it's just for personal use.

This was an interesting post. Thanks for making me question if sarcasm is actually a bad thing. I don’t agree off the bat but I’ve never seriously considered it.

Now I don’t know if you’re being sarcastic. Damn it!

Have you never mistaken a checkbox for a radio? I have not. At least not to the point I’ve noticed. Consistency within an app is important, but done well, I think it’s okay to break with conventions.

Yes. Unmaintained proprietary OS software is a manifestation of the paperclip maximizer. Maybe we'll soon be able to pave the whole planet with "unsupported" hardware (which actually works perfectly fine).
