What's wrong with asking questions about the competence (and honesty) of experts and "the media"?

Asking questions is obviously fine. "Just asking questions" is a specific bad-faith rhetorical tactic: https://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Just_asking_questions

If you can trigger a debugger from a keyword it's usually pretty easy to trigger it conditionally or on an exception in the code rather than through a GUI.

That works well for ruby and javascript and probably lots of others.

e.g. something like the equivalent of

  def foo
    bar.map do |b|
     b.do_something!
     debugger if b.state == :something_youre_interested_in
    end
  rescue => e
   debugger
  end

I'm really excited by Replay. I think it will be invaluable.

Yes, but I think this is what they meant by

If we're going to run society this way, we're going to need much more difficult driving tests.

Sounds good to me. Let's require regular re-testing while we're at it.

The Alcubierre drive “beats” the speed of light, for the effects described 0.7-0.9c are more than good enough (if slightly unpractical).

We can’t do that either for now, but is way easier on the feasibility scale.

The Alcubierre drive is only a thought experiment that requires "exotic matter" (aka fairy dust) to work.

Do you get paid by Medium for your posts that others need to pay to read? (Edited: misread that you're also an author there).

In my book, it's wrong to pay if original authors don't get that payment.

Wait, are you under the impression that the authors don't get paid?

One thing I think all founders/Product people should consider is that there are off label(so to speak) uses for everything.

Many many people use travel planning software as escapism from drudgery. This is an opportunity not just to sell them travel, but also anything that immediately salves their boredom. Maybe a weekend getaway, a movie night tonight, or a hot date with a hot <gender> this week?

In this case the off label usage likely is much more frequent than the real thing because as Garry says people do not take much vacation; but how often do they dream of vacations?-- all the time.

Similar could be said about realtor.com People arent there just to buy houses, but to dream of what their current house could be (that they cannot afford). So maybe they're viewing lots of houses with pools? Sell them an above ground pool and a luxurious lounge chair...

Heh yeah I caught that too. My wife plans many, many trips per year - but we certainly don't go on all of them, hah. The planning is a hobby in itself.

That may be the target, but the real outcome is simply delaying those deaths, spreading them out more over time.

Which is still a good outcome, because you don't want to overwhelm the healthcare system to the point that it can't handle anything that isn't COVID.

That was the whole point of the early-pandemic "flatten the curve" campaigns.
