A fun read. I often wish I were programming back in that era, instead of where we are today, tasked with implementing tracking pixels, banner ads and upsells. But who knows, maybe I would have been driven insane by the resource limitations.

It's not too late to take on a daring, creative project that stretches reasonable resource limitations.

Is it still a 60hz screen? If so, pass. I’ve got an old gen 1 pro, which has 120hz and can’t go back to 60hz - it’s even more needed in an iPad than a phone. All the other Pro features are not worth it for me, and really this mid tier should have 120hz. I’ll hold on to my current iPad until that’s that case (I can’t justify paying the high price for a new pro)

I'm so confused by their lineup. I'm in the market for a new iPad, but I can never remember the difference between an iPad, iPad Pro, and Air. What's the difference between this an a 13" Pro or Non-Air? I wish they'd just have a single line of iPads with different screen sizes but the same CPU and stylus support in every generation. I'm so tired of having to play the "compare every permutation" game when shopping.

Edit: I just want a big screen for drawing and watching movies on the plane with.

It's pretty simple. Get the Air if for yourself. Get the Pro if for work or if you want a better screen. Get the iPad for kids.

That's probably the right thing to do, but "Javascipt" was always a terrible name for it. It has nothing whatsoever to do with Java. It was just an early bit of dotcom marketing. They had aspirations of getting the two to work together, but they gave up on that almost immediately.

For a while, Google would conflate Java and Javascript when searching. That was really aggravating.

"ECMAScript" isn't a great name, either, but it at least doesn't confuse people. Personally, I liked "Livescript" as a name.

How about "JahScript" since it is the lord of the scripting languages?

Maybe he didn't have the stick-and-rudder skills needed to ace that emergency; he's not like Sullenberger. But he prioritized saving his own life over that plane, and that's the real, unspoken problem.

I took my own passport photo with my mirrorless camera, and a whiteboard as the background. It took a while to get it right, with no bright spots on the background and now shadows. It was accepted.

Well, most PEOPLE are disinterested in history, except when it's presented to confirm their own views. That's a shame for those Bible school students because learning those things involves learning how people respond to religion, which can profoundly help them in ministry.

Yeah, that was an amazing helicopter, and it's really too bad it was cut, but as you say, it just didn't make economic sense any more when UAVs were invented. I guess it's something like the Japanese battleship Yamato, with the largest guns ever installed on a warship. It was amazing, but easily sunk by airplanes flown from aircraft carriers, so it was already obsolete when it was launched.

I worked with a former army officer / test pilot who was formerly involved with the Comanche project, when the news came out that it got cancelled. He was quite disappointed with that, and disagreed with what was said about it's survivability. He said if they can't see you, they can't shoot you.

Could you provide some instances of how hard evidence might look like?
ldargin · a year ago
Proof, something that people can observe and recognize as true, not just circumstantial evidence. They should avoid repeating the Dorian Nakamoto situation.

Unless there is hard evidence, I'd consider this a waste of time. I don't know the purpose of "revealing" Satoshi if he's someone who doesn't want the attention.
