Looks a bit like this:

Which is a banger VS Code extension for all sorts of http xyz testing.

krisgenre commented on The Future of Flatpak   lwn.net/Articles/1020571/... · Posted by u/dxs

I find Appimage to be better alternative to Flatpak: no install, persistent through linux installations, no issues with themes, icons, Xorg config; in practice - take fraction of flatpak storage size, optional sandboxing with external tools like firejail, easier to run from terminal / dmenu / rofi, very easy to tinker with and fix.

There's just one problem: they don't integrate with desktop without an additional application. We need a feature where dropping an AppImage into "~/.local/share/applications" would automatically detect it as a ".desktop" file and make it appear in the DE menus.

For desktop integration you can use Gear Lever https://github.com/mijorus/gearlever. It can also update AppImages with some configuration changes.

$899 (edu) or $999 is extremely competitive for what you get.

Most people buying an entry level computer these days should at least consider stretching to get a MBA than the $300-400 shovelware, they’ll get so much use out of it.

My wife is still using her 2020 M1 Air and it’s still as snappy as the day we got it, still works for all her use cases.

Incredible value.

Ah! my early 2015 13" Macbook pro died only few weeks back. I don't think any other laptop will last nearly 10 years (TBF I did replace the battery and speakers for $280 in 2020 though)

Why do people keep saying Steve Jobs invented the iPhone? He at best could have pushed people to do the best but that alone should not let him steal all the credit.

Man, reading this makes me feel so small. Being a "software engineer" consuming APIs and updating database rows seems laughably childish compared to whatever the hell it is I just read. I can't even imagine why I should bother trying to understand it. It's completely inaccessible. Only an elite few get to touch these machines.

Thank you. Seeing this as the top comment actually makes me feel better as I now know that I am not alone.

Why bother with this style of interview where the candidate is under extreme time pressure and isn’t allowed to use any of the research tools they would normally use in their job? What is this controlling for?

It barely made sense when these were conducted in person, and it’s completely inane over video meeting.

Instead of grilling people, talk to them. Give them meaningful take-home exercises that you can discuss together during the interview. If they can explain the decisions they made and discuss alternatives and trade-offs, that’s a much better indicator of job performance than pretending to invent a leetcode party trick algorithm in 10 minutes.

I let candidates use the Internet (except AI tools) during coding interviews. All I care is if given a problem can they do the necessary research to solve it. It usually involves making them use a library which they are not already familiar with. This is more than enough for most of the programming jobs.

I had quite a few episodes of "Johnny Sokko and his flying robot" recorded on VHS and also of one interesting TV series about a group of children living all by themselves in an old caravan (the opening credits shows them jumping through a hole in a fence). My mom gave them all away long back but even now I miss them :(

I felt like I could rationalize a lot of Google decisions to kill products, such as Inbox or Reader, but retiring Google Domains really shook my confidence in GCP.

Even though I was a Google fanboy, this was a nail in the head. Had a .dev domain which expired and squarespace asked like 6 times more to let me buy it back. Waited till the grace period was over and bought it back for the original price from NameCheap.
