These videos are a very impressive engineering feat. There are a lot of uses for this capability that will be beneficial to society, and in the coming years people will come up with more good uses nobody today has thought of yet.

But clearly we also see some major downsides. We already have an epidemic of social media rotting people's minds, and everything about this capability is set to supercharge these trends. OpenAI addresses some of these concerns, but there's absolutely no reason to think that OpenAI will do anything other than what they perceive as whatever makes them the most money.

An analogy would be a company coming up with a way to synthesize and distribute infinite high-fructose corn syrup. There are positive aspects to cheaply making sweet tasting food, but we can also expect some very adverse effects on nutritional health. Sora looks like the equivalent for the mind.

There's an optimistic take on this fantastic new technology making the world a better place for all of us in the long run, after society and culture have adapted to it. It's going to be a bumpy ride before we get there.

I actually wonder if this will kill off the social apps and the bragging that happens. It will be flooded by people faking themselves doing the unimaginable.

I've been wanting to create a similar holiday optimizer tool myself, but what you've done is marvelous! Do you take requests for new countries? I see that you're using https://date.nager.at/ as the source and country is listed, so perhaps it's easily doable?

I've added more countries now, feel free to see if it works for you :)

I do a similar thing with https://www.thateasy.me/ I use it to test the latest coding/automation tools. I think I prefer your design :)

Nvidia seem to be one step ahead of this and you can see their platform efforts are pushing towards creating large volumes of compute that are easy to manage for whatever your compute requirements are, be that training, inference or whatever comes next and whatever form. People are maybe tackling some of these areas in isolation but you do not want to build datacenters where everything is ringfenced per task or usage.

NVDA is valued at $3.5 trillion, which means investors think it will grow to around $1 trillion in yearly revenue. Current revenue is around $35 billion per quarter, so call it $140 billion yearly. Investors are betting on a 7x increase in revenue. Not impossible, sounds plausible but you need to assume AMD, INTC, GOOG, AMZN, and all the others who make GPUs/TPUs either won't take market share or the market will be worth multiple trillions per year.

I thought the valuation of public companies at 3x revenues or 5x earnings has long since sailed?

This being ycombinator and as such ostensibly has one or two (if not more) VCs as readers/commentators … can someone please tell me how these companies that are being invested in in the AI space are going to make returns on the money invested? What’s the business plan? (I’m not rich enough to be in these meetings) I just don’t see how the returns will happen.

Open source LLMs exist and will get better. Is it just that all these companies will vie for a winner-take-all situation where the “best” model will garner the subscription? Doesn’t OpenAI make some substantial part of the revenue for all the AI space? I just don’t see it. But I don’t have VC levels of cash to bet on a 10x or 100x return so what do I know?

These VC’s are already lining up the exit as they are investing. They all sit on the boards of major corps and grease the acquisitions all the way through. The hit rate of the top funds is all about connections and enablement.

The moment of landing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dim8elzo5vE

When I look at this, it seems it's a long-range optical feed of the moon surface with lander graphics laid over it. Has anyone found footage of the actual craft touching down? It would be amazing to see.

Hopefully they can leave behind a camera to film the next arrivals.
