The first food group listed is literally meat and dairy. The ordering here is purposeful, too, as they admit. One promo graphic includes a block of butter and a carton explicitly labelled "whole milk." This is a very definite downgrade.

Why is that a downgrade?

I’m building a voice-first assistant for Apple Watch.

I feel the Apple Watch is a great form factor, and while other devices can complement it nicely, it’s currently way underutilized.

My app can be used to take notes, query them, look things up online, and a lot of things you’d use ChatGPT for, but from your wrist.

I'm a huge smart speaker user. I have one in every room. But as soon as guests come over I stop using them. I would never use Siri etc in public.

Going from voice input to silent voice input is a huge step forward for UX.

I get the sentiment, but can you elaborate on why that is the case for you?

For those thinking about speed: an average human talks anywhere from 120-240 words per minute. An average human who touch types is probably 1/3 to 1/2 as fast as that, while an average human on a phone probably types 1/5 as fast as that.

But for me speed isn't even the issue. I can dictate to Siri at near-regular-speech speeds -- and then spend another 200% of the time that took to fix what it got wrong. I have reasonable diction and enunciation, and speech to text is just that bad while walking down the street. If this is as accurate as they're showing, it would be worth it just for the accuracy.

I agree, but I think LLM-based voice input is a lot better. I’m using OpenAI’s realtime API for my Apple Watch app, and it does wonders, even editing can be as simple as “add a heart emoji at the end”, and it just works.

These improvements are very welcome for the “VoiceGPT” app I’m building for Apple Watch.

I have a TestFlight beta for those who want to try it out, hope to have the new model included in the next beta build:

> One of the most outlandish one being that freedom to use your phone however you want would necessarily compromise security and privacy for everyone.

I suppose in a round-a-bout way, it could, more specifically around iMessage, which is Apple's baby in the US and a big part of their lock in effect for US users.

Right now, you can reasonably assume that using iMessage with another iPhone user that both ends are reasonably secure and private. Break open the walls of the garden and now you could say that you can't trust that the other end you are communicating with hasn't installed some random crapware or malware that's scraping their messages, or recording the screen during a facetime call, thereby compromising your own privacy by interacting with a bad devices.

In that instance, Apple is correct - but what Apple doesn't tell people is that all other forms of digital communication are open to the same risks so they aren't special.

Random crapware or malware is still subject to app sandboxing.

Can you give an example of what your concern is?

This is exactly what I experience, and for me, this is a huge issue when it comes to 'selling myself', whether it is in an interview, or writing a self-assessment for a review.

And just like the author, I couldn't answer questions about hard problems that I've solved, until someone pointed out a moment where I did something they would call an achievements.

Now, at that moment I have the right references. It is still hard to talk about it as an achievement, but at least the recollection is there.

And just like the author, I have an excellent spatial memory, remembering roads and direction, and the ability to use that to recall other details.

I wonder how much of this is related with having ADHD, which often makes things feel like you're merely a spectator in your own mind. While I was never hungry as a child, and had access to a good education, the situation with between my parents had a lasting impact on me.

If you don’t mind me asking, what was the situation between your parents?
