Considering what happened in the last two weeks alone this lack of self-awareness is simply brilliant.

What has happened exactly in the last two weeks ?

Not always, but sometimes it does. Cavalry charges aren't a thing anymore, for instance.
justanorherhack · a year ago
Or revolvers, bolt action rifles, muskets, bow and arrows, spears, swords, shields, catapults, castles/ land forts.

Usages exist inside contexts, and the context of the post you replied to was unambiguous. Changing it like s/VPNs/services advertised as VPNs/ would not clarify anything to anyone, and changing it like s/VPNs/proxies/ would be less clear (since the author was likely referring to commercial services, not servers in a network).

This is correct. This entire conversation demonstrates how bad technical people are at understanding people.

I'm not sure why I'm getting downvoted so heavily for this comment.

Instead of giving two smaller airlines a chance to work together and compete against the "Big Four", denying the JetBlue merger all but guaranteed that Spirit would have to file for bankruptcy.

The company's assets are worth more than the company itself so I wouldn't be surprised if it simply liquidates with the result being no fares (because no Spirit airlines), no seats (because no Spirit airlines), and millions of customers with less of a choice (because no Spirit airlines).

You’re getting downvoted because it’s evidence against the prominent sentiment of government good, big business bad. How could to government ever make a mistake.

The judges ruling was uneducated and poorly based, especially considering how the big four got to be so big. It was politically motivated to make the party/gov look good, but the long term results were good for nobody. I lost money betting on the merger, it makes no sense it got blocked.

I use a similar structure but without column alignment.

  SELECT
    a,
    b
  FROM t1
  JOIN t2 ON …
  WHERE cond1
    AND cond2
  ORDER/GROUP/HAVING etc

Aren't H1B workers the most likely to comply?
justanorherhack · a year ago
That’s what he is saying. Get rid of non h1bs then keep draining people until they leave and then use that as justification to expand h1b positions.

H1b is really not fair. They have virtually no negotiation standing without risking their immigration status. They are underpaid and subsidized, and drive domestic wages down. Among many simple reforms they should execute, a big one would be tonseperate the sponsor company from the visa. Which would allow them to negotiate and have more agency.

Commute really is key. When I used to have a 15-minute bike commute, I voluntarily went to the office five days a week. The 30 minutes spent each day is just good exercise.

Now I take the train that's 30 minutes long each way. I don't get the benefit of exercise, the time spent is doubled, and now I'm only going to the office three days a week.

justanorherhack · a year ago
At least you can be productive ish on the train, sitting in the car for a daily dose of near death experience is even worse.

I was just chatting with a friend on how we haven't received the conservation emails like we have in previous years. This year has not been as extreme either as the DFW metroplex has not had the extended 100°+ days. We've just had a run of 3 or 4, but we've had 30+ consecutive days in the past.

The Federal government should start paying companies like this a hefty lump sum and take the patents by eminent domain. Same for drug patents.
justanorherhack · 2 years ago
Or yea know get rid of patents and how broken they are, especially while our enemies are ignoring them anyway.
