The EU - "it would be a shame if something happened to your business model". idk it sounds like the EU is becoming more like organized crime in how they act - "and hey we need you to make a way to break E2E encryption so we can monitor".

Their business model can be whatever they like outside the EU. To do business inside the EU then you follow EU law, or you leave the EU market.

Apple doesn't have to do business here, they can leave if they think the regulatory environment is not favourable for their business needs. The vast majority of people here won't care much or at all.

>Back then, buying a PC with windows meant having a lot of crap installed by default.

Maybe in the US/West when you bought prebuilt form the likes of Dell. But in my home of EE, most PCs we had for sale in shops were locally assembled with no OS, or just vanilla OEM Windows installed (sometimes even pirated).

Crap installed by default on PCs is not something I ever encountered where I live.

In west europe PCs were riddled with crapware if you bought a prebuilt windows machine in the 90s and early 00s. Wipe and reinstall windows was first thing I would do with a new PC, it was a necessity. I don't know about intervening 20 odd years, I used linux, but I recently installed win 11 home and had zero crapware. Windows ISO from microsoft, harder to install than garden variety linux (not hard, just more annoying and takes way longer), but no tiktok, roblox, disney etc.

Maybe it's an EU thing that stopped all the preloaded crap, no idea.

Love this. It can go really deep, really quickly. I created robots on my third command...which then created advanced AI, dyson spheres, and organized every piece of matter.

I then destroyed it all. Then restored from a backup pocket universe...that was my favourite...a snippet:

This made me think of Terry Pratchett books.

My name (Owen Byrne) is not that difficult but I’ve spelt it so many times in my life it’s become a reflex. Then I visited Dublin for the first time in 30 years and found myself embarrassed by doing it.
jongle · 2 years ago
If it's any consolation (and assuming you're not Irish), spelling it is helpful in Dublin too as we spell it different ways here. It could be eoghan, eóghain, owen etc. So if you're making a reservation at a hotel, restaurant etc. then spelling it out won't do any harm.
