Sounds terrible. I wouldn't want to live in that city.

You mustn’t do much walking in your life then.

If I had to commute by car every day in traffic… that would absolutely suck. Hopping on the train always feels better though. I get to see random people, relax, listen to music, not worry about crashing…

I’d like to see this asshole waste 2h every day in public transport and get less work done because of a noisy open-plan office.

I feel such a disconnect with what passes as normality when I read pieces like this. The final few paragraphs are bonkers to me. Out of nowhere, they put their poor dog down because their child surprised it and it bit back and then she feels a sense of pride that he's stronger about putting down his dog because running a startup toughened him up? Everything this author says feels alien to me, I could believe it were transcribed from an ancient scroll.

I bet if you have a female name, more drivers will actually try and bring it to the door (which may be up a flight of stairs) rather than calling you to come down and get it. There are always trade-offs.

I used to use latex to write my CV. It looked beautiful and it definitely looked “better” than other CVs (I have seen hundreds of CVs while interviewing ICs). One day I found out that I could produce the same high-quality CV using Word (I just installed the latex font, was it Modern Computer?). My Word license expired but I could produce the exact same PDF using Libre Office. I’m happy I don’t rely on latex anymore.

I’ll bet I can tell which version is LaTeX or Word.

3 weeks ago my iPad got dropped in water for half a second, then stopped turning on the next day. I booked it in for ‘repair’ at apple, only to be told “sorry, you don’t have applecare, so a replacement will be ~$1300aud. We don’t actually repair any ipad, and offer no genuine parts for any iPad repair”. This was not an old ipad, mind you, but a 2021 M1!

Here’s what I think of Apples right to repair support: bullshit

What else can you do but look at files and code to figure out problems? And why use a monospace font for prose? I agree otherwise though, it can bite you in the arse if you don’t understand the layers of abstraction you’re dealing with. It’s the reason I sort of don’t like browser-based stuff. We already have a full OS stack for doing stuff, why add another on top of it?

Related: for MacOS, AlDente allows you to set a battery charge limit.

https://apphousekitchen.com/

I've been using it successfully for around a year. It works pretty well sans a couple quirks due to hardware limitations e.g. if you plug in with the screen closed (sleep mode) it will charge fully to 100%.

AlDente has a new competitor with less paywalling: BatFi. I find it nicer to use.
