That's how I've always done it. Why would anyone do it any other way? Genuine question.

I think the correct thing to do is to punish accusers of provably false allegations as harshly as the accused would be.

You might say "this will have a chilling effect on legitimate accusations" and you might be right, but the situation is bad enough now that it's created a pretty extreme chilling effect on socialization in general.

EDIT: I don't normally do this but argue your point. If you continue playing games like down voting very reasonable ideas that you disagree with eventually all of us are going to come together and leave you out of the discussion entirely.

This is how its done in many non western societies: if you allege something, you better have the receipts to back it up or face similar consequences.

I built a cool tool the last week's. I spent more time on evaluating payment processor than the code itself.

I have ~5 projects in my shelf I did never launch because I didn't find a payment solution.

Got instantly banned with all of them, had to write them an email wait for days to get some response.

I usually just use crypto whenever it makes sense. And still have a hard time to believe that I can move as much as crypto as I want but a single payment from a Dubai account can get my bank account frozen for days ...

jimjimwii · 2 months ago
This is what i settled on as well. I maintain a side project that is completely legal and above board but i refuse to go through the nonsense i was forced to go through the last time i had to integrate with a credit card payment gateway (another side project that went belly up).

If someone wants to buy something from me badly enough, they'll figure out how to get some bitcoin.

I don't have the time and energy to deal with their arbitrary bullshit anymore.

You said "Good." then wrote a nice stirring bit about how having a bad experience with a 1T model will force people to try 4B/32B models.

That seems separate from the post it was replying to, about 1T param models.

If it is intended to be a reply, it hand waves about how having a bad experience with it will teach them to buy more expensive hardware.

Is that "Good."?

The post points out that if people are taught they need an expensive computer to get 1 token/second, much less try it and find out it's a horrible experience (let's talk about prefill), it will turn them off against local LLMs unnecessarily.

Is that "Good."?

Had you posted this comment in the early 90s about linux instead of local models, it would have made about the same amount of sense but aged just as poorly as this comment will.

I'll remain here happily using 2.something tokens / second model.

jimjimwii commented on Firefox is fine. The people running it are not   theregister.com/2025/07/0... · Posted by u/LorenDB

"Safety".

The thinking is that users are a danger to themselves and will be tricked by threat actors to add some CA cert to the trust store, paste commands into the js console, or download and sideload malicious extensions no matter what controls are in place so therefore these possibilities must be removed.

jimjimwii · 2 months ago
Those same users will be tricked into downloading the "secure bowser" which has these tools. This is a nonsensical argument.

To this day, firefox is still the only browser that prevents its users from running custom extensions without Mozilla's blessing, likely motivated by the same garbage argument.

I have very little hope for Mozilla at this point and sincerely hope that they fail soon so that better open source browsers can take its place.

While I agree in theory, this is never going to happen. There's too much DRM in use for it to work out.
jimjimwii · 2 months ago
Repeal and outlaw drm. It was a mistake that violates everyone's constitutional rights.

Thanks.

Simple Mobile Gallery was removed from Fdroid so I wasn't getting updates.

Migrated to this.

The recorder app sucks though, which is a shame.

jimjimwii · 3 months ago
Agreed. I was surprised of how bad it was compared to their other apps (their calendar app). The recordings are faint/muted and it seems to have reliability issues.

Luckily there are quality options to choose from on fdroid.

the easiest way to defeat phone fraud is to ahead of time decide on a verbal password between family (and close friends, if they're close enough that you'd lend them money).

In a real scenario, they'd know the verbal password and you can authenticate them. Drum it into them that this password will prevent other people from impersonating you in this brave new world of ai voices and even video.

jimjimwii · 3 months ago
That is more or less what i did with my parents, but this approach is still susceptible to active mitm attacks.

2 factor authentication through a secure app or a trusted family member is probably also needed though i haven't tackled this part with them yet.

jimjimwii · 4 months ago
For me it's the R1 fiasco and their dishonesty. How anyone can continue to trust a project that brazenly mislead their users to such an extent just to cash in on the hype is beyond me.

I guess ill just connect my phone to a charger and record the screen then. What is the threat model that Microsoft hopes to thwart with this nonsense?
