You could remapped whatever you don’t link.

I have Caps Lock set to be Ctrl and tmux set to use Ctrl+a. For a vertical split, I have it mapped to Ctrl+a, |. For horizontal, Ctrl+a, -

It’s pretty flexible.

Forgive me for asking a sort-off-offtopic question, but what's the reason terminals - and therefore the programs which run within them - offer such limited scope for ctrl-key usage. A lot of characters are not available for remapping, such as ctrl-numeric-digit, or ctrl-shift-anything etc. What's the root cause of this? Is it telnet related? ssh? And, assuming there's a compromise somewhere, would it be possible for the problem to be lifted with a config option which says "I'm using this shell locally on my chromebook - please don't inflict this 40 year old restriction on me"?

Looks like some of the shortcuts are really RSI prone, i.e. ctrl + b + & (where & is shift + 7). Are there any possibilities to have more wrist-friendly shortcuts?

Yes choose what you want.

So, because there is no permanent evidence of the harm, is the reporter "evil"? ("Evil" is your term.)
iamnotacrook · 6 years ago
It was investigated and there was no harm?

No. Because this nonsense will break my systems.

What is this? Some crazy guy makes significant changes to a standard, the distribution maintainers will just gobble it up (as per usual) and then I have to weigh the pros and cons instead of complaining and fixing/adapting my systems e.g. wasting time because of a crazy guy's ideas?

There is no market in OSS. It's either use it or leave it. But even in OSS there are established standards which are relied upon! Poettering doesn't care about that, because he likes change.

iamnotacrook · 6 years ago
You missed out the step where the knowledgeable people who run and have to support most of the major distros adopted systemd. When's that going to backfire? Any day now, right?

I don't understand your last paragraph. Did the guy behind systemd use OSS or leave it?

What makes these illustrations absurdist or surreal outside of the quarterly pricing?
iamnotacrook · 6 years ago
They're free, billed quarterly. Got it.

I really don’t think the Chinese are interested in exporting their governance system.
iamnotacrook · 6 years ago
The USA and the Chinese governments are not so different. All that ideology bollocks is window dressing; the API. The back end is the same.

Exactly. You look at this, remember that it'll be making its way around the world (slowly at first, admittedly) and it's impossible to ignore the little internal voice where your conscience used to be whispering "kill yourself".

So you're only allowed to sell stuff nationwide if you're big enough? Oh wait, there's EBay... I am sure solutions for this will spring up if need be. There's money involved, after all.

Edit to add: These solutions will not be as convenient as the current state of affairs, I contest that.

iamnotacrook · 6 years ago
"Oh wait"

Nobody needs to wait on the internet - you can just go right ahead and type!

"there's EBay..."

You're saying that for a business to be successful on the internet they need to get their money from buying and selling goods on eBay instead of running adverts? Or that they'll sell adverts on eBay? I'm puzzled.
