Apart from the UI being more point and click, what does Kiro (or Cursor) add that for example Claude Code's CLI doesn't do?

> With Kiro, I spend more time upfront articulating what I want to build, but then I can step back and let it execute

This sounds like exactly the kind of exercise one does to /init a project with Claude, define tasks/spec etc.

Another very vague comment bashing Firefox without any real explanation.

I'm not sure making a list that's been done time and time again here would make a difference. But if you're truly interested, here are my top 3:

- Firefox comes packed with all kinds of telemetry and analytics turned on.

- No workspaces/profiles. I know there are extensions that can enable various flavours of this functionality, but it's just too much overhead to experiment and test every-single-one.

- Widgets! I love Vivaldi's Dashboard for when one needs more than just a homepage.

I tried Firefox just a few days ago, but it didn't work out. I just missed too many things out of the box. My main browser is Vivaldi (so all the chromium goodies + privacy + made in EU). Safari comes in as a close second, I tend to use it on the go because it syncs well with my Mac and Apple throttles any other browser on iOS.

This is false. You're welcome to install whatever air-conditioning system you want, the only requirement is that it needs to be deployed by a certified installer. Which makes sense, of course, we wouldn't want DIY setups that can say leak toxic chemicals or cause electrical fires all over the place.

It would be cool if Apple/Google/gatekeepers considered similar measures for the App Store / Google Play related search where similar constraints apply.

Most customers do want it this way, but Apple still allows to exchange comfort for privacy, if you want to. I actually think it's a pretty sensible approach to capture both the big segment of people who don't care, and those who do and know which knobs to tweak.

You can still turn everything compromising off and end up with a device secured to paranoid levels. That's definitely more than an empty promise, or what other vendors provide.

> Most customers do want it this way, but Apple still allows

I don't believe this is the case. Apple generally prefers to diminish the importance and risks of specific actions unless they have some monetary advantage. e.g. Apple is happy to warn you (multiple times) that an alternative marketplace is "dangerous" and yet iMessage iCloud Backups are just a click away with a friendly "so your messages are available everywhere".

Another example is Photos - Apple has no problem activating features that collect "anonymized" information from my pictures. Yes, there is an opt-out, but having all that on by default is not in the spirit of a privacy-minded operation.

And about the choice - someone already pointed out in other comments, there really is no way to replace iCloud with anything else for backups and app data sync. So the choice is not really a choice.

This looks like fun though (thankfully), it is illegal for someone to use AI to vet your profile under the AI act.

Imagine the dystopia of having to convince a chatbot of one’s qualifications.

Agreed. Nobody's life/livelihood should depend on the output of a glorified random word generator (the technology behind current generation of LLMs).

Is there any hope of a non-joke fine here? Or are we just looking at another kiss of the wrists as them and Google and all the other big tech cos fuck literally everyone over?
iamkonstantin · 4 months ago
The precedent is significant too. Remember the EU is currently reviewing Apple’s malicious compliance with the DMA, there are also regulators in other countries moving forward too.

I basically agree with you, but it's not like you could not be tracked using your credit card number.
iamkonstantin · 4 months ago
This is not about tracking, having your biometrics means they can resell the data to other providers (e.g. palantir or some other hellish enterprise). With that, the places and means of following you in real time are practically limitless...

There have been so many dystopian movies about this kind of tech, it's a good insight of what comes next.

Dead Comment
