Shut one down, another pops up in its place.

Ok shut that one down too.

This just sounds like any other community based around a niche interest.

From kink to rock hounding, there's always people who base their identity on being a broker of status or power because they themselves are a powerless outsider once removed from the community

A truck for who though?

If the truck is intended to tow, it will need a reasonable range to be useful.

If it's just intended to be a shiny large vehicle for suburban people buying their way to an identity, then we might be talking.

I think the real shocker is that people still think anything on the Internet is real. That "well they said it was true so it must be" is somehow still the default

If they decide to settle, even if for a much smaller amount, its a big L for the UC system and the nation. The past Universities were much smaller, but the UC system is a beast. They must fight this or we are really going down the road of a politicized and neutered academia (like in Russia). This along with the recent Executive Order claiming to be able to require a political appointee to approve every research grant, we are going down the wrong road.

I am constantly thinking about this modern misunderstanding of what the framers of the Constitution meant by "Executive Power" is simple "to execute the law".

"Article II Vests Executive Power, Not the Royal Prerogative" [1][2] is critical and needs to be set front stage.

Blame Congress. There are 3 branches of power meant to keep the others in check. That's not happened in...20, 30 years now?

I asked o3 pro to do something like this a few months ago when I paid for a month of ChatGPT Pro. It got very excited and said it was on it and spent 20 minutes absolutely cranking. Then it spit out the world’s saddest excel file with no formatting, and half the data truncated.

I agree with the premise and appreciate the definitions that capture a situation that's still being understood, but the solutions are vapid.

"Awareness" as an option for an information saturated society is not the pathway for anything right now

I want kids to have the same freedom I had.
homeonthemtn · a month ago
I really, truly don't. I was exposed to so much insane traumatizing content in near every setting. I want my kids no where near any of that.

That's the thing with this whole discussion though. both of these asks are totally reasonable My kids should have freedom to explore | my kids should not be exposed to violence and crude sexual content despite my best efforts to moderate their Internet usage

But the responses are overwhelmingly lopsided

I just want less porn and violence exposure on the Internet. I dunno why this turns into a mouth frothing event. That's a pretty reasonable ask in any other context other than the Internet.
