hkai commented on Crypto Price Prediction: Ethereum Could Outpace Bitcoin and Surge to over $50k   forbes.com/sites/billybam... · Posted by u/MayurJBhatt

Wow expert. Much analysis.

I didn't have to read an article to see that it's pure speculation based on nothing.

Yes, it could surge to $50k, or it could also fall to $50. Technically it is true.

hkai commented on Study: Recycled Lithium Batteries as Good as Newly Mined   spectrum.ieee.org/recycle... · Posted by u/mpweiher

Just as important as recycling these batteries is making it possible for older EVs to have their batteries replaced years down the road with 3rd party batteries.

In 2031, it should be possible to by a long-past-warranty 2021 EV, replace the battery pack (with one made from recycled EV batteries!), and have it just-work. Just like you can replace the engine of a classic car today if you are so inclined.

It should be possible because the electrical connection of the batteries to EV drivetrains are relatively simple - although I'm sure that will take a lawsuit (like was launched against Nespresso to allow 3rd party coffee pods) for EV manufacturers to release the specs required for this to happen.

It would be unfortunate if EV batteries were non-serviceable except by the manufacturer after they were out of warranty, like phones are today. Instead, battery replacement would potentially allow the tertiary used EV market to flourish, and make them more accessible to people of modest means.

Looking at my phone and macbook with built-in batteries, I realize a car with a swappable battery is not something we can achieve as humanity.

Have you ever heard of "The Narcissist's Prayer"? It goes like this:

That didn't happen.

And if it did, it wasn't that bad.

And if it was, that's not a big deal.

And if it is, that's not my fault.

And if it was, I didn't mean it.

And if I did...

You deserved it.

Tether defenders are really working their way through the steps here.

18 months ago, it was "That didn't happen." (Tether is 100% backed by USD cash.)

6 months ago, it "wasn't that bad." (It might not be 100% USD cash, but it's cash-equivalent assets like short-term commercial paper.)

Now that there's strong evidence the commercial paper is just fake money shuffling between Tether/Binfinex/other shady crypto investments we get "that's not a big deal." (Look at the way banks work! They only need 4% collateral! Tether's probably got at least that much...)

Next step is finding out that their actual liquidity isn't capable of holding up under a real-life stress test, and the defenders will be talking about "not my fault." (This was a once-in-a-lifetime crash, they couldn't have foreseen it, crypto's still way better than the fiat banking system!)

When thousands of people lose their retirements in a gigantic defi crash, it'll be "you deserved it." (Everyone knows crypto is risky, you shouldn't have believed Tether was the same as USD.)

I don't disagree with you, but USDC and USDT are identical in their transparency, yet everyone hates USDT.

I don't see an issue with learning the age of the customers who come into the store.

I think a much bigger issue with tech is censorship and surveillance of political opposition, not the recording of someone's age and gender.

It actively uses its algorithm to radicalize racists and conspiracy theorists, and when it discovered that's what it was doing decided to keep doing it because it was good for the bottom line:

To recap, you seem to be concerned that all social media are allowing posts to become popular, and those posts sometimes promote hatred towards conservatives or liberals.

Two questions:

- What do you think should be done about the legacy media that is doing the same?

- Should social media promote boring posts, or actively censor political content in favour of a certain viewpoint, or anything else? Perhaps a real-life name registration for anyone with over 1000 followers, like in China?

There would be a massive opening for new platforms to take over, and the odds that they are also based in the West would be much lower.

What's the advantage of using a Chinese platform instead of Facebook in terms of privacy, freedom of speech or political influence?

Because combined with the abysmal state of education in most places, and a general lack of government action, Facebook is an actual threat to our civilization.
hkai · 4 years ago
Why?

The reasons I've seen are:

> it creates a risk of bad self-image for young girls

It's a parent's job to educate your children. There are much worse things than Facebook out there.

> it collects data

Literally no harm in knowing that someone is interested in JavaScript, cats and fetish porn, and targeting ads to that user.

> it's addictive

So is sex, marijuana, and collecting stamps.

> it helps organize protests

Good.

Let’s hope it’s this. Everyone will just shrug and move onto the next hopefully less evil site
