This is cool! Just hosted a stream but there were a few bugs/issues.

1. Streamed via Blackhole and music was constantly slowing down for me, not sure if listeners had similar experience. 2. Couldn't unmute my mic so you could hear me breathing in the bg at times. 3. If I refreshed the page I couldn't go back to hosting my room. How can I do this? 4. If I blocked my mic all music stopped and re-adding it wouldn't go back to streaming.

It's weird. When Netflix came about, I was excited to dump all the bespoke pirating stuff that it replaced. I didn't mind paying for content, in fact, I was glad to.

Fast forward a while, and now Netflix seems to be an undiscoverable mess of old and foreign content while charging twice as much. Each IP owner felt it necessary to make their own way worse clone, and still, after paying more than a hundred a month, there are things just not available on any of them. And now, more than ever, the high seas seem so enticing again.

I'll never really understand how they ruined the opportunity presented, but they really soured people on their value proposition.

It was inevitable. Netflix rose thanks to studios and distributors selling them rights to content for peanuts. Streaming wasn’t taken seriously as it wasn’t a main source of revenue. Some years later and it’s a completely different story. Demand for streaming sky-rocketed, digital rights value increased and now every studio wants to create their own walled gardens.

Complacency is the enemy of innovation. So many other chat clients are way better, yet WhatsApp is irreplaceable because it enjoys the competitive advantage of network effects.

Rather than banning social media, we should be forcing social media companies to make their apps less addictive and promote more positive interactions. This only stigmatises social media more and gives them a ‘free pass’ to keep being a net negative contributor to society. It’s such a lazy legislation. Besides, what counts as social media? Texting? Gaming? The internet is inherently social.

Am I the only one who finds it surreal to see long distance trains in the US? Don’t get me wrong - I know they exist. It’s just that I feel like they never get depicted anywhere in the media. I also don’t think I know a single American who has gone to another US city by train.

I’m honestly surprised to see this quality of writing at NYT. Clickbaity headline, ragebaity angle to the story. Of course it’s good to give more options to consumers!

In all honesty, I don’t think many people will select a handful of contacts to share with apps. They’re just gonna share all and that’s it. People don’t have the time nor energy to think and select what contacts to share among hundreds in their address book. It’s such a hassle!

This is could also be fun for blind people. It would be a close experience as for someone who isn’t blind.

I’m working on an Anki Addon that streamlines the hell out of the card generation process using LLMs. You can define a schema of prompts for your note type & fields, where each prompt can reference other fields, and use it to generate things like translations, example sentences, mnemonics, for tens of thousands of cards in batches or in the fly as they’re reviewed. These generated fields can reference other generated fields so it’s actually a fully fledged DAG under the hood! It also supports TTS in 50+ languages. Soon adding image generation support.

It’s a paid service at $5/mo with a free trial. Just cracked $50/MRR! Baby steps, but the value is clearly there. Need to tighten up a couple things, especially the web presence and onboarding, before I start marketing more. The tragic irony is that I’m spending all my language learning time building this (alas there can be no other way).

Love it.

This is such a fun way of visualising your everyday life. Of course, being data-driven may not always be the right answer for everything, but it will at least help you make more conscious decisions.

I can guarantee I have a blazer or two in my wardrobe with a much higher Cost Per Wear than the author's ones due to lack of use.
