That feels like real revisionist history to me. He was late to mobile. Buying Instagram was the Hail Mary. and yes, it paid off. But a tech company with the resources of Facebook could have been where Google is today with Android if they’d acted at the right moment.

The Instagram purchase was in 2012. Who was still expecting mobile to come crashing down in the iPhone 5 era?

Yes FB was all about HTML 5 and didn’t adopt native mobile until around 2012.

He was just buying users of popular products in lieu of attracting new ones to his own.

Meta has subsequently ruined IG and seems busy working up new ways to ruin WhatsApp.

We should also stop calling it ID theft. The identity is not stolen, the owner do still have it. Calling it ID theft is moving the responsibility from the one that a fraud is against (often banks or other large entities) to an innocent 3rd party

100% agreed.

You've reminded me of when I first watched Idiocracy in 2006. At the time, I delighted in the comedic, sophomoreish, and seemingly ridiculous take on a possible trajectory of humanity. But now much of it is actually coming to pass. It's sad.

P.s. As a sidenote, apparently I love all of Mike Judge's productions, which also includes Office Space, and Beavis and Butthead.

The issue with Metro, imo, is that it was dizzying to use as you were swept away into new interfaces and for many tasks we lost a lot of usability.

Yes especially given that XP was the most useable version of Windows ever. They just threw it all away and expected people to relearn the basics of interacting with their PC.
