This is the killer feature that keeps me a ff user, now that browsers are so equal in performance.

Back when multi-player doom was a thing, as mentioned in the video it was IPX networking, so to play over the internet we had to tunnel IPX over TCP/IP, using a tool called kali.

Worked surprisingly well given the network speeds we had (28.8k modems)

Yeah, Kali! Best $20 i ever spent. Hard to believe that we used to play Warcraft 2 4vs4 in the late 90s. Somebody always disconnected before the game was over, but still!

The suggestions you get when typing in the address bar are miles better than the chrome counterpart imo. Otherwise I think these browsers are more equal now than ever.

The best exploration game of it's era. I can still remember christmas morning when I played this 20 years ago. Hooked me right from the title screen with that ominous music.

hankmander commented on Ask HN: How do you get started as independent consultant or contractor    · Posted by u/mr_o47
hankmander · 4 years ago
Try to get your first client before even starting. Call people you know that might need help. Once you actually take the plunge, make sure you tell everybody you know and be visible where it counts, online and offline. Try to build a name. It takes time. A consultant broker or similar could help you find gigs at the start too. Good luck!

Super cool! Visualizing org mode is something I don't think we can get enough of. Keep it up!

The stuff you can do with emacs, which is around 50 years old now, is still phenomenal, and it's still under active development to provide all manners of features that make emacs an immensely powerful and expressive lisp machine.

The only reason I haven't got into org-mode is because of the context switch and the fact that I'll spend more time figuring how to organise my thoughts.

But emacs is still my daily driver for everything I work with but typescript, so far. It's the most seductive technology I've ever had the pleasure of working with.

I use tide-mode for TS. It's great together with LSP!
hankmander commented on Ask HN: Employees who exersised stock options: how did it go?    · Posted by u/juancampa

Piggy backing here, I exercised options 2 years ago when quitting my job. The company had a down round and I don't believe they have much of a future so I'd like to sell my stock back to the company, the stock at least being worth more now than the $30k I paid on exercise. Has anyone sold stock back to their company? What was the process like?
hankmander · 5 years ago
I tried to once when quitting by asking the CEO. He said the company was not interested. If the company you left don't have a future, chances are they're don't want their stock back. Start by asking if they're interested, then give them a high but fair price.
