ELI5: why exactly did the clients get bad execution?

Does sending order flow to trading firms in itself cause unfavorable execution?

Or did the trading firms treat order flow from RH differently than from other sources?

Or is it something else?

And does the fact that RH was receiving large payments for order flow impact the quality of execution?

> Or did the trading firms treat order flow from RH differently than from other sources?

I'm not well versed in financial language by any stretch, but i believe it's this.

Matt Taibbi did a piece on them last week and goes into this. https://taibbi.substack.com/p/pandemic-villains-robinhood

> ...the resolution in today’s announcement re-affirms that the Department of Justice will not relent in its multi-pronged efforts to combat the opioids crisis

> The criminal resolution includes the largest penalties ever levied against a pharmaceutical manufacturer

Jeez the DOJ surely sprinkled a ton of 'self-congratulating' language in this for simply doing their job.

Cleantechnica had a writer who spent some time taking a closer look at the claims made by companies in this space, a couple of links:

> The only press they ever received was from credulous buzztech sites that just wanted something flashy to grab eyeballs, so they weren’t used to anyone actually being engaged enough intellectually to point out the lack of clothes that they were wearing. I love the way this is written.

"For more than two decades, an area larger than Chicago centered near the basin has been inflating and deflating by several inches in erratic bursts. In a hyperactive volcanic region like Yellowstone, the exact causes of any specific movement are difficult to pin down."

[...]

"To be clear, the new research does not indicate that the supervolcano that created Yellowstone’s caldera—which last erupted 640,000 years ago—is any more likely to erupt now."

Thank you for this. The headline of the article certainly seems to be taking advantage of the recent hysteria around everything else happening in our lives right now (covid-19)
gypsy_boots commented on Whistleblower: Google Boss' Daughter Scrubbed from Guardian Exposé   thedailybeast.com/whos-a-... · Posted by u/k1m
gypsy_boots · 6 years ago
This article is kind of all over the place, at first blaming the Guardian but then backing down a bit to say that they had limited resources to fight what would be an expensive legal battle, which is understandable.

> He said he was put in touch with Gavin Millar, a well-known London lawyer who had worked on the Edward Snowden case. Wylie said the lawyer suggested he give the story to a U.S. newspaper because the First Amendment provided a stronger defense against accusations of libel..."it was actually The Guardian's Katharine Viner who reached out to Dean Baquet at the New York Times to help set up the partnership." Wylie’s revelations were published jointly by The Guardian and The New York Times

This should be the main takeaway from all of this. They were making a calculated choice based on the resources they had available. The Guardian should still be seen as a trustworthy publication

Author says:

> I also find misleading the title of BoingBoing’s report of this story: “Google’s forgetting the early web”. The two posts mentioned here are not “early web”, nor really “old”.

While the title of this author's post is "Indeed, it seems that Google IS forgetting the old Web"

Do others find this pretty crucial? We do this at my org and I’m interested in knowing if it’s detrimental.
