vim is so ubiquitous that most people don't realise vi is symlinked to vim pretty much across the board

I was honestly embarrassed to admit that I have no idea what I've been using on my Ubuntu server for the last 10 years. The way to find out if I'm using vi or vim is to enter command mode (by pressing “:”) and run “version” I'm using vim ;)

As I was reading this text, my hands started sweating, my head began to ache, and I felt the anguish and terror of reliving a traumatic experience all over again. I can’t even count how many times I’ve been stuck in a project that’s already behind schedule, where the client (I’m a freelancer, working directly with the person who has the requirement) throws in a ‘simple’ request like: change the style of that radio button so it matches this other one. The problem isn’t that—because of reasons like the ones explained in the article—I end up spending hours and hours on what looks like a trivial task. The real nightmare is when the client asks me: ‘Why are you taking so long to do something so dumb?’ It’s a nightmare. That’s why I ran away from React, because of this and countless similar situations, and went back to WordPress, where the world is so much simpler, the clients are happy, and so am I.
gustavorg commented on Earth was born dry until a cosmic collision made it a blue planet   sciencedaily.com/releases... · Posted by u/amichail

Absolute garbage.

The Earth has a nearly perfect circular orbit. Any collision with another planet would have pushed it off its orbit and caused it to at the very least created a more elliptical orbit that likely would have made the swings in temperature more deadly for life on Earth.

This entire article is science fiction.

Furthermore, robotic exploration of Mars is already yielding sufficient evidence that Mars once had oceans. There is a well-founded suspicion that Europa and Titan have seas hidden beneath their surfaces. Does this article mean that all of this is just our imagination? I don't think so.

Everyone is celebrating and praising this beautiful and well-crafted game, and here I am maliciously thinking that if this game were to come to Steam, some evil curator would say “Not recommended” followed by a nonsensical and absurd explanation.

The last image of this article shows the bug supposedly solved. But it does not show the same image with the bug. The images to show the bug are from different points of view, where it is difficult to appreciate the problem as the last image does.

After reading all these comments, I started to worry and even panic because it seemed to me that I was on the wrong side. HN, which side are we on?

Yup the world is big and even though we think we have heard stuff, there are more things beyond that. For example, I know a dev who makes mobile apps and clears 500_000 / month in profit and yet their app isn't really "popular". It is crazy.
gustavorg · 2 years ago
You are going to say what the app is, right? right?

Any idea what this could mean for those holding crypto on Robinhood?
gustavorg · 2 years ago
I don't believe that at this point there are still people who have their cryptos with them. These people already have “most wanted” style documentaries and almost all cryptos forums have in their FAQs “Not your keys, not your coins" warnings.

Decent Wordpress hosters always had this, but the majority of Wordpress sites were (and probably still are) just droplets, Linode, Hetzner, etc.
gustavorg · 2 years ago
Sir, I have my pompous site on linode and feel offended and hurt.

Is this a MUD? Can it be accessed through telnet or a MUD client?
gustavorg · 2 years ago
No, it's a text adventure, an RPG, online, in a browser.
