I use Apple's native Notes.app

It is easy to create text with checkbox you can click on, and on macbook you can type fn + Q to open the floating Notes window, or use hot corners. It is automatically available on your iPhone as well, since it syncs.

Protip: look for an Asian market in your area for food. I get an entire shopping cart full of food for $60-100 and that lasts for ~2 weeks.

When I go to Publix (or any other grocery store), I get like 2-3 bags for $60...

Discovering the Asian market has been one of the best financial things to happen to me. Although I'm not really sure how their prices are so low. If someone could answer, that would be awesome!

Publix is expensive. Even Walmart will save you a good amount.

Just like the term "hacking". It's been co-opted to the point the original use has almost no meaning.

> We want to help these countries, and in the process, spread democratic AI, which means the development, use and deployment of AI that protects and incorporates long-standing democratic principles (…) Likewise, we believe that partnering closely with the US government is the best way to advance democratic AI.

The current US government? To protect “long-standing democratic principles”? Give me a break.

Google making Gemini 2.5 Pro (Experimental) free was a big deal. I haven't tried the more expensive OpenAI models so I can't even compare, only to the free models I have used of theirs in the past.

Gemini 2.5 Pro is so much of a step up (IME) that I've become sold on Google's models in general. It not only is smarter than me on most of the subjects I engage with it, it also isn't completely obsequious. The model pushes back on me rather than contorting itself to find a way to agree.

100% of my casual AI usage is now in Gemini and I look forward to asking it questions on deep topics because it consistently provides me with insight. I am building new tools with the mind to optimize my usage to increase it's value to me.

Same here! It is borderline stubborn at times and I need to prove it wrong. Still, it is the best model to use with Cursor, in my experience.

if anyone cared about security, they wouldn't be pushing ai slop

this is like saying “if anyone cared about security, they wouldn’t be pushing programming languages” since they essentially created the whole cybersecurity industry.
goshx commented on Show HN: A terminal emulator in pure PHP   github.com/soloterm/scree... · Posted by u/aarondf

Sure I can explain it a bit.

I named it screen because the main class is called screen. It was extracted from another library to make maintenance easier. It's not a tool that can ever be used outside of a PHP project, and it has no binary. It's namespaced under SoloTerm.

A nice analogy would be a package named @clerk/auth and then everyone complaining about the package being named auth. I mean it is... but that's not really the full name or how anyone would refer to it.

Most commenters didn't understand any of that nuance and got hung up on a surface level thing that didn't really matter. It was clear to me that the suggestion didn't apply in this case so I thanked them for the feedback. I don't have to take the feedback!

Several other folks commented that it's not really an emulator but rather a renderer. I thought that was a pretty good point and something I was wrong about. So I changed the readme! I thanked them for their feedback as well.

It's no secret that HN commenters lean cynical and can miss the majors for the minors. I just don't want to fight with them! I'm grateful for feedback. Some of it I take and some I completely ignore. As everyone should!

Kudos to you for taking all the heat and handling it gracefully.

Perhaps adding a screenshot or video to the README.md showing what it does could help people understand it better.

What ElevenLabs and OpenAI call “speech to speech” are completely different.

ElevenLabs’ takes as input audio of speech and maps it to a new speech audio that sounds like a different speaker said it, but with the exact same intonation.

OpenAI’s is an end-to-end multimodal conversational model that listens to a user speaking and responds in audio.

I see now. Thank you for clarifying. I thought this about ElevenLabs Conversational API.
