gooodvibes commented on Ask HN: What is the biggest problem LLMs solved in your life/work    · Posted by u/mrs6969

Because it's the wrong question!

It's not that LLMs solve entire classes of life/work problems. Instead, they take some life/work task (coding, ideas generation, learning about new topics, personal reflection) and make them x% easier, y% faster, z% better.

This isn't really a trap, and it doesn't help anyone; it looks like "I got burned but I don't want to share the specifics".

It definitely still does the opt-in suggestions at the end, and that seems perfectly appropriate in some cases.
gooodvibes commented on Ask HN: Are leetcode interviews going away?    · Posted by u/ryandvm

Leetcode was never about being similar to real work. Companies aren't stupid - they know it's different and still think that they get useful signal from testing skills that don't match the day-to-day of the job. Whether that's appropriate or not is where the actual debate around the value of Leetcode is; the debate isn't whether leetcode is like day-to-day work, nobody is claiming that it is.

And LLMs don't make the difference you think they make to the viability of LC interviews. Before LLMs, you could solve an interview problem by looking it up in a database with solutions. Or (in real work) you solve these algorithmic problems by importing a library. LLMs are just the (n+1)th way to do the same thing.

Where LLMs play some role is that they make cheating in remote leetcode interviews easier.

This is naive. They'll want their phones just as much as before. The landline won't make any difference.

Maybe the goal is to entertain your children? "Oh dad and his 1980s technology, what a goofball"

Not having the choice to use the old models is a horrible user experience. Taking 4o away so soon was a crime.

I don’t feel like I got anything new, I feel like something got taken away.

I get a bit miffed if I go a full day working remotely without any meetings, I can't imagine signing up for this all day every day with no end in sight.

For some, perhaps many or even most, that is a hyper-optimization IMO.

Hyper-...? I don't think you get how optimized and hyper-optimized exercise can get.

I'm talking about the basics. For anyone who wants to get benefit from exercise. If you think you're getting those benefits in some other way, you're lying to yourself or you don't understand what we're talking about.
