Stinking is actually a consequence of a sedentary lifestyle. With the right kind of cycling infrastructure, riding a bike in flat terrain is a low intensity exercise to which the body soon adapts. It can become quite relaxing and meditative. Exemplary video of cycling in the netherlands: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hb0QjASuuqI

It's strange, but I think at least some companies find it hard to staff positions, while also at the same time ignoring/rejecting suitable candidates.

Case in point - I'm a generalist who can very credibly claim very significant expertise at two disconnected areas (compilers and distributed systems), plus some startup/ product management expertise. I saw a job listing here for a startup that needed both of these and claimed they're looking for remote work - so, even though I'm not actively looking for a job, I wrote them; the match between my skills and their needs seemed too good to be true.

They wrote back the standard rejection mail - didn't even try to talk to me. I thought that maybe they found someone else, but no, they still advertise the position. I know it sounds arrogant, but there's no chance in hell they can find many better candidates (I doubt that they can find even one, but well, good luck).

Are their recruiters uniquely ignorant? Unlikely. I think many companies do a lousy effort on recruiting, and then wonder why they can't fill the positions. One of the reasons "internal referrals" work so well is that the candidates are at least seriously considered.

These kind of job listings may just be used as a cheap form of advertising to show investors and (potential) stakeholders that the company is growing and - therefore - doing well.

Imagine if this was United Airlines: They'd send security staff to the homes of vacationing pilots and have them forcibly escorted back into the cockpit, ha!

> Please don't encourage violence.

The 2017 protests were peaceful.

The ones in 1989 were violent all over Eastern Europe with the exception of Czech Republic. The killing of Romania's late dictator and the mock trial was the doing of former secret police, who's corrupt offspring and relatives are the politicians in power today. They only took advantage of the protests to picture themselves as heroes and sieze power for themselves.

Anti Trump protesters that destroyed private property are just vandals who can't accept the outcome of a democratic election.

This is BLATANTLY false, please get your facts straight! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Revolutions_of_1989

>To be honest I never saw the appeal in this sort of activity.

You can walk up to a girl, who in any other situation would smack you for it, ask her to dance and if she says yes (and she is likely to, unless you stink) touch her and spend several minutes close to her.

I mean maybe you are super good looking, but if you are not and have a crush, dancing is a huge social hack. Plus as with everything that is challenging it is kinda fun (and not a bad way to get your steps in, if you are on the step-counter team).

Wow that sounds pathetic. Sorry but why would you want to do that? These minutes may be better spent socialising with someone without a princess complex. There are enough fish in the pond, no need to make a fool of yourself!

We did build schools in Afghanistan and the Taliban blew them up. Evil exists; it’s childish to pretend it doesn’t. As long as there are people that think it’s ok to beat women for not wearing a burka, there will be a need for men and women willing to fight. You don’t placate evil, you destroy it. Does anyone out there actually believe that the Taliban could have been defeated with schools and wells? An incredibly naïve viewpoint. Until you actually spend some time in those places, you can have no idea of the evil that thrives in the hearts of men.

You might want to look up who build the Taliban in the first place...

Last time I checked the prosecution was bound by instructions (§ 147 GVG), in this case by the government of Lower Saxony. Of course there are some limits to this and I'm not saying anything like that happened here.

Additional fun fact: The state of Lower Saxony owns 20% of Volkswagen AG (https://www.mf.niedersachsen.de/themen/beteiligungen/volkswa...)

Excellent read. Just a few more pointers from personal experience. When over water, "pencil" your body, feet first, at the very last second. Molecules of atmosphere, which are your friend at 120mph, are not so much when they are of water.

Also the author didn't mention my favorite survivor Juliane Koepcke. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Juliane_Koepcke

I immediately thought of her too. She tells her story in Werner Herzog's "Wings of Hope": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rlJVIcCPIl8
