Big Island is an extremely interesting place. Its just few kilometers wide but it has around 8 climate zones ranging from snow, desert, volcano, tropical, beaches, rainforest what not. You can drive less than an hour and go from desert to snow and snow to tropical.

There is one public bus that goes around and once I was the only passenger and the driver stopped the bus near the ocean to show the travelling whales/dolphins.

We've banned this account for repeatedly breaking the site guidelines and ignoring our request to stop.

It's a pity, because you've also posted good things, but banning is about bad posts, and obviously you can't post slurs like this here.

If you don't want to be banned, you're welcome to email hn@ycombinator.com and give us reason to believe that you'll follow the rules in the future. They're here: https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html.

Absolutely not. I dont want to be unbanned. I gave up my media job protesting the Iraq war and I will give up all my social media accounts protesting this rabid propaganda russian ukrainian war.

Thank you for being polite enough to explain though. I really appreciate it.

Agreed that likely need to find the right group. Any advice on where to look?

I’m in nyc if that helps.

You can follow some indie people on twitter. meetup is almost dead so best bet is to get into this indie groups and then network out or even go to coworking group events

An absolute majority of startups are not vc funded. Only the ones you hear about are.

You either need to join the right group or talk to some founders.

I'll just throw this tidbit out even though it sounds like in this specific case gold is physically moving.

But in many (most?) cases, gold in these amounts is held in very few physical locations around the world, like The Bank of England, and "moving gold" just means changing paperwork on who "owns" which gold inside the vault.

>and "moving gold" just means changing paperwork on who "owns"

Usually yes, but in this case and ALMOST all cases recently its physically shifting gold around. Argentina moved it from Argentina to London, most global south countries are physically moving their gold to their own country (India: https://www.firstpost.com/explainers/india-gold-flying-engla..., China: https://internationalbanker.com/banking/whats-behind-chinas-...)

The sanctions on Russia has triggered a flight of capital and gold across countries. I am just surprised why US is buying so much gold given that its mostly developing countries to buffer up their own reserves so that they can trade in their own currencies.

US has USD so why is it stocking up on Gold. Someone somewhere knows the answers.

I know this has important global trade implications and all, but I'm really curious about the logistics of this. Where is all this gold coming from? How is it being delivered to NY? Is it being delivered to the fed bank? How much will delivery cost? Will it just be some 'plain' armored cars or will they shut down some streets while a military convoy comes in? So many questions...
ganeshkrishnan · a year ago
its all delivered in secret flights and routes. Last year, an insider in Canadian airport got tipped off about impending arrival of gold and got along with his friends for the "largest heist in canadian history" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toronto_Pearson_International_...

If you are the only person who thinks that it might fail, one cent put options will be free and you can buy them until the price hits zero, and then you can make a cent.

For example, the opportunity to sell $TSLA for $180 in one month costs about thirty cents right now. Keeping this up for ten years would cost $36.

ganeshkrishnan · a year ago
It doesn't work like this. The stock might fall around $10-$20 every month in the worst case scenario. In which case the premium of $180 will keep rising every week, 90% of which will expire worthless.

You have to buy really farther out or really far off strike both of which have nearly zero probability ( delta is nearly zero and less than 1)
