You don’t elect a Prime Minister in the UK, you elect a parliament

I'm glad to see how this debate has matured from focusing on the technical downsides to focusing on the business and end-user benefits. But at the same time, whenever I have Blender open, effortlessly displaying eight different 3D views and UV mappers and the Spotify app, almost crashing my system by playing music, I can't help but wish that more developers would walk the extra mile for the user experience.

random and probably irrelevant spotify tip:

I absolutely hated how slow and buggy the app was, until I realised it was down to it attempting to index music locally all the time

my app speed increased massively by going to settings > local files, and turning off all of the options of where to show songs from

People who go on and on about the Google and Amazon "monopolies" -- which only benefit consumers with low prices and expansive services -- this is what actual monopolistic behavior looks like. Apple controls access to a significant share of the mobile application industry and it directly abuses that market power to harm customers by reducing competition and artificially raising prices. Apple is being sued in both US and French courts over it appstore monopoly so let's hope this ridiculous practice is stopped soon.

Can you explain how Google pulling YouTube from the Firestick was good for consumers?

Absolutely. I've found I have a really hard time with how he writes action as well. I always feel as though he's describing someone playing a video game.
flintchip · 8 years ago
Yes!

I recently picked up the Way of Kings but found the way he described the action/fantastical elements really jarring. It was like he felt he needed to spell it out rather than let the reader discover it organically. I've been told I need to struggle through though as it's supposedly a great story.

It looks like (although not obvious) that you get paid for running this?

If so, I'm pretty certain that it won't be economical due to the power usage. Great for teenagers with gaming machines that their parents are paying the electricity bill on, and that's about it.

Jack owns ~24% of the company. It is just his equity.

Yes, but 10% of 100% is a lot more than 10% of 24%.

NFC in Android is not active while the device is locked [0]

> Android-powered devices are usually looking for NFC tags when the screen is unlocked, unless NFC is disabled in the device's Settings menu.

So to use this, the hacker already needs an unlocked device, in which case it's just as easy to download the payload directly.

Usually, the range for NFC to work is quite close, 4 cm or less [1], and I don't think these chips have the capability to increase the range.
