Or just push for better regulation instead of resorting to childish vandalism?
exogenousdata · 11 days ago
More childish than the process of getting new regulations against big-tech approved in local government? I’d say it’s a tie, at best.

Was the Boston Tea Party childish vandalism or heroic patriotism? Only history gets to decide how the actions of disobedience are ultimately judged.

What does "three down, seven to go" mean?

Unfamiliar with us academic terms.

exogenousdata · 12 days ago
The program requires 10 courses to graduate. The parent comment has completed 3 courses and has 7 courses remaining.

If you ever want to quickly destroy an organization, just separate the ability to control with the responsibility to control.

Burnout, infighting, and chaos will ensue.

This is a wonderful, succinct way of capturing this danger to businesses as they grow & jump the gap!

In a perfect world, I’d like the user to have a choice. And that way I could post things anonymously if I wanted. However there would still be the implication of posting anonymously.

In the states, I desperately want a state-verified ID system that I can use to post on social media. However I don’t want it to be mandated.

Not sure i get the implication, something wrong with the company?
exogenousdata · 2 months ago
I’m not the parent, but I’d assume that this was an impressed ‘yikes.’ While Jane is not the most well known firm for ultra low latency trading, an FPGA engineer from that firm could be considered an expert practitioner in the field.

Ohh side note but this was the journalist group which was blocked by proton

The timing as well is very suspicious and I think that there can be a lot of discussion about this

Right now, I am wondering about the name most tbh which might seem silly but "APT down - The North Korean files"

It seems that APT means in this case advanced persistent threat but I am not sure what they mean by Apt Down, like the fact that it got shut down by their journalism or-? I am sorry if this may seem naive and on a serious note this raises so many questions...

exogenousdata · 2 months ago
“APT Down” is likely a reference to a popular Korean drinking game.

I have ADHD and it almost acts as a body double for me, which I find to be incredibly helpful to get things done.
exogenousdata · 3 months ago
GPT-4 got me seriously considering making a product for school-age kids w/ ADHD. It’d be a physical device (like a StarTrek communicator). That listens during your day and keeps track of a) things you say that you’ll do or b) tasks that other people ask you to do. Then it compiles those tasks and attempts to be basically a secretary. It can also plug into your email, texts & school assignments.

The privacy implications are horrifying. But if done right, you’re taking about a kind of digital ‘executive function’ that could help a lot of kids that struggle with things like prioritization and time blindness.

exogenousdata commented on Boring work needs tension   iaziz786.com/blog/boring-... · Posted by u/iaziz786

I disagree. Boring work needs meaning, not tension. Some times boring, done consistently, is where the truly great things come from.

Tension is, imo, ephemeral. If you keep chasing it, you are chasing dopamine loops. Little good comes from this.

But meaning is different. When you can remind yourself a truly great "why" you are doing something, can re-frame it, it can help.

Most importantly, boredom, irritation, and anxiety are temporary. They are emotions. They do not define us or the work. It was a joy when I realized that all these emotions will pass. They really do. You can sit with it. You really can. You can't make it go away, but it will pass.
