eur0pa commented on YouTube's new anti-adblock measures   iter.ca/post/yt-adblock/... · Posted by u/smitop

Why do we justify blocking ads, even when we know the content we’re consuming isn’t free to create and even if the content is free, it still costs money to store and distribute?

We often rationalize using ad blockers because ads can be intrusive or annoying. But let’s asking ourselves: Why do we feel entitled to get this for free?

This isn’t a moral judgment. I genuinely want to understand the reasoning.

To remove advertised features the customer has already paid for is excellent basis for a class action.

I appreciate the effort, however that list of payloads is a great way to get your IP address banned by Akamai and others. There are better ways to discover injection points without poking trigger-happy WAFs.

HN isn't only for tech news. This guy was a prime example of being a "hacker". He hacked his diet and gathered data. Unfortunately in this particular case his data was very flawed.

But he definitely had the hacker ethos.

Huge stretch

The website will complain about the user having adblockers enabled. It will passive-aggressively ask the user to disable the extension or, in tiny grey-on-white text, allow them to "continue without supporting us"

Piracy is alive and well, has been since the late 90s and early 00s. Never seen an ad in my life.

Standard single phase grid connection is either 60A, 80A or 100A in the UK. The numbers the OP is quoting here certainly aren't representative.

There are other countries beside the US and UK. Italian homes get 3kW in total, breaker trips at 3.3. You may request up to 6kW for additional fees.

Well that's like your problem :)

But seriously, how can you cope with 3kW power to apartments? No electric ovens, no water kettles, no AC?

Just running a few modern gaming computers on full load will trip the breaker O_O

By being judicious about what we plug in and when. And by using gas.

> Furthermore, most homes are allotted 3kW, upgradeable to 6kW for a fixed one-time fee, and perpetual fees in the monthly bill.

Are you sure of those numbers?

3kW is the max capacity of a single socket (at least in the UK). My electric shower is 10kW and electric hobs/cookers also need higher ratings than standard sockets. Here in the UK I believe that the standard domestic capacity is 100A per home (so about 24kW).

It is in Italy, where I'm located.
