That sounds good, but with a safety net, are you really going to be hungry enough to make sure your one shot at getting out of the ghetto doesn't fail? The entrepreneur that says to themselves, if this doesn't work, I'll just ask mom for another $300k at St Barts over Christmas doesn't sound like the one sleeping under the desk at the office to get the demo ready for TechCrunch Disrupt. Or maybe they are (to prove daddy wrong). The human condition contains multitudes.

amazing there are still people like (I mean this sincerely!) who think this way. fellow citizens trying to do their best is about as far removed of realities of my government (usa) that it is almost surreal reading your words

There were a lot of people trying to do the best they can and doing great things until Trump started fucking that up by firing them. Now there are 10s of thousands of people getting paid not to do what used to be their jobs. and many more not getting paid at all. Trump's attacks on competency are going to be felt for the rest of our lives.

That seems like a reductive defence of a platform that is pitching rent control and socialized housing without addressing underlying demand. Which is basically the recipe the entire western world has used for half a century and has resulted in the worst housing price inflation in history.

The hard truth is that New York isn't even remotely dense enough for the demand. The entirety of lower Manhattan from Canal St. to midtown is "low" density. As is everything above 59th. And this is codified. So no wonder NYC housing prices are out of control. NYC should look like Sao Paulo based on demand.

He's been very clear about addressing underlying demand through increased supply.

Too bad most of this is meaningless, and the actual policy is the only thing standing between America and another 50 years of housing crises. When the so called progressive millennial is pitching rent control as the solution to housing in the largest city in the US you already know it's fucking Joever.

Social policy is popular among millennials, that doesn't make it good. Mamdani and his followers are wilfully ignorant to the root causes of the issues NYC is facing.

You should probably learn more about his housing policy.

No need to write like that. I know, understand and use passkeys for quite a while now.

I don't love them. I don't love passwords either.

But while I don't fear passwords, I fear passkeys. The reason is that it makes the tech even more intransparent. My password manager stops working, completely dies or I can't use it anymore for other reason? No problem, I can fallback to a paper list of passwords if I really have to. This transparency and compatibility is more important than people think.

Passkeys lack that. They can be an interface like you described, but only if everyone plays along and they can be exported. But since there is no guarantee (and in practice, they often cannot be exported either) they are not a replacement for passwords. They are a good addition though.

Unfortunately, many people don't understand that and push for passwords to begone.

I have yet to see passkeys used as a sole method of logging in. There's always a traditional username and password setup first. There's always a recovery code set up for the passkey. I have yet to see passkeys offered as the only means of MFA. Which means that your backup methods still work. You can use them for recovering your access. I see passkeys as an optional convenience. It works well for me by that measure.

People hopefully won’t reuse the username/password they use on GOOD to log into BAD, so the login that BAD does in step 3 will fail.
ericjmorey · 4 months ago
Some percent of people will reuse their password. This is all but guaranteed.

The US Government is not interested in hiring outside of law enforcement so they won't be able to find people to fill positions outside of law enforcement.

You need to read what I wrote more carefully. The entire point is that whoever is in power decides which law actually gets applied and to whom. Do you think for some reason that the Trump administration risks being prosecuted by the Trump administration?
ericjmorey · 8 months ago
The executive branch is afforded some discretion, but the judicial system decides how law gets applied as directed by Congress when they write laws.

Harvard is free to say whatever it wants and operate without government funds. A shocking idea may be for a school to actually use the tuition paid by students to educate them.

This is forced speech for all those of us who disagree with Harvard's politics and yet have our tax dollars sent to support it anyways.

ericjmorey · 8 months ago
1st Amendment is more important than you not liking a specific spending of government funds.
