Can we bring this https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Crystal128-penguin.s... version back instead? I hear Apple has decreed that glossy/glassy design is cool again.

Testament to it's appeal is when it's used by businesses to promote their ice creams/slushies.

Great use of typing in the editor, e.g., I like how it knows the references to template sprites so it can highlight the errors when calling functions with incorrect arguments.

I got that too, but had never seen that permission before.

I just went ahead and allowed it.

Current best practice is not to ask permissions like that (location, notifications, or programming midi devices) on landing, but to stick them behind an interaction like a toggle or button press.

Recently chrome started asking for permission to use MIDI, when before it did not. So lots of existing sites won't tell you that they will request MIDI, which is what most sites that request the webcam do for good UX.

Been using qimv instead of eog for a while now and love it, takes me back to the days of picasa which was the first time I ever had photos load _fast_.

Have an extension on the chrome store too and receive these emails regularly. Promising cash to turn your extension into malware. Mine is a small, specific project that took a weekend or so of work, so I'm sure others in the same position would be tempted to take them up.

My favorite (mis)use of Dosbox was using it to drive Symate for PLC programming. That let me switch to using a Linux netbook instead of dragging a laptop booted in DOS around a factory.

My notes from the time: https://sites.google.com/site/waspvm/runningsymate374underdo...

Did a similar thing with engraver software (which had a parallel port hardware serial key dongle that DOSBox allowed access to) and a dBASE IV program at a client's factory. Amazing piece of emulation that enables "ancient" code to run forever in small businesses around the world.

I would like to see a round cable version. I know this may not fit the design ethos, but I've had projects that I really wanted to use the Pi+camera and couldn't because of camera positioning (a 1m round cable would have worked) .

I use this [1] HDMI Cable Extension which allows you to use and HDMI cable between them. Works perfectly.

eldog_ commented on How to make the Atom editor transparent   github.com/transcranial/a... · Posted by u/transcranial

As an addition, you can make any window translucent/transparent in X11 (running with a composite manager) using transset-df, e.g.,

  # Lets you click on a window and sets it's alpha to half
  $ transset-df 0.5
One usually gets annoyed with not being able to read their terminal properly after a while though.
